I have a DSA Congo Model.  I have several hundred round of Israeli surplus that is corroded.  My friend M1A shoots it without problem but it gets stuck in my chamber.  If I turn the gas up it will rip the rim off or partially extract it.  I know the DSA I have has a Badger barrel.  Is it because the chamber is tighter?

Disclaimer: I have been drinking so I am sorry for any grammatical errors.

maybe your barrel just needs to be polished? but shooting visibly corroded ammo doesnt seem like a great idea

Thank for the reply.  It's only surface corrosion.  We have shot thousands of rounds of this through other rifles without problems.

Ripping rims off is way over gassed!

It sounds like a tight chamber to me, some very minor polishing might help.

Just dropping rounds in to the chamber is different noticabley between the FAL and M14?

What vxtip545 said.

It could also be the difference between a 7.62 x 51(Military) chamber and a .308 win chamber. Military chambers are usually more generous in dimension. My FAL barrel is stamped 7.62 x 51, with a chrome chamber and barrel. I have only shot surplus in it w/no problems.

The Badger barrel has a match chamber... it is NOT military loose.

Try tumbling the corroded ammo in a tumbler to smooth the surface corrosion...

Ok, tell us, why is shooting corroded ammo not "a great idea?" Come on, impress us with your knowledge.

Thanks for all the replies.  I've got a PTR91 Limited Edition on the way that might eat it.  This is the only ammo I've ever had problems with in my FAL.

The only time I ever had cases rip out was with excessive head space.

Most of the Portuguese ammo I have has some surface oxidization on it, it has never been a problem in my rifle.

Gah, ditch the izzy surplus! A bunch of that stuff came in that had problems. I had a round kaboom on me in my L1A1 several years ago; thank God it held together. Because of that, I never go to the range without eye protection anymore. It cured me of that oversight.

It might work for you, or it might just kaboom on you. If you have to shoot it through something, pick up a beater boltgun with a strong action. I wouldn't shoot it through a semi-automatic rifle of any kind, though.
