I'm having one of my DSA FAL receivers registered as a SBR then having DSA add an 11 or 13 inch front end and para lower.
I want to use this with one of my 308 cans. I have a 13 inch front end for it already but want it shorter so I'm going to pic up an 11 inch front end. How do suppressors work on SBR FALs? any risk of baffle strikes? sould I go with the 11 or 13 inch front end? |

Simple fix for overgas is to weld up and redrill a spare gas plug to a smaller hole. Just remember, need to limit the amount of gas dumped out the bleed hole, as that is what makes the noise once the can is on. I used a 5/64" drill to get same gas setting as normal operation, but you really want to tweak this to get just enough gas to function. |

Nope. At least this has not been an option for anyone I know who put a can on a FAL. Yes, you can dial it back to drop pressure to the piston, but not enough to get 'normal' extraction *AND* you are venting more high pressure gas out the bleedhole, which means noise. On my modded plug, I welded over the bleedhole cut. Heck I even toyed with the idea of making a sleeve for the gas piston tube so I wouldn't get gas out of the two ports under the guards. Course that just squirts more gas back up into the receiver, but any containment is going to reduce the noise somewhat. |

I've never shot a .308 silenced, heck I have never shot anything silenced....but I would venture a guess that if you wrapped a cloth or something to "dissipate" the gases when they are emitted you would be okay.
Of course your fancy rifle would look as cool at the range....but if you are "on a mission" you might have the gun wrapped anyway for camo. |

I have heard it said the FAL does not suppress well, and this may be why that is said. I never tried it with the standard plug, as the rewelded plug was such a simple fix for me to try. Of course if you are willing to use the charging handle for each shot, the FAL can be as quiet as any bolt 308 with a similar barrell length. |
