Older post, but what cheek riser is that? Would like to buy one. |
My FAL with a TA-33 on it. I'm using the Bobro low mount for compact ACOGs. I like how it sits. A 1/4" lower would be ideal, but this works just fine. Also permits the use of the carry handle and loading with chargers.

It's a Tapco mount with charger guide that I got NIB at a garage sale last year. Unfortunately, due to them removing the inner part of the rails to reduce weight and the way the Bobro secures to the rail that combo will not work, as the ACOG walks forward with each shot. I would need to get the DSA equivalent or a different ACOG mount. |

Had to shoot my gendarmerie FAL a few times before desanctifying it with an optic. Nothing too fancy, just an old LVPO I had lying around. Attached File |

Imbel/STG58 FAL, barrel shortened a bit by ARS sometime back in around 2000Attached File DSA Para kit Steiner P4Xi super low-mounted (throw lever ring inside a picatinny slot). Just shot a 3" group at 100yds using MEN Metallwerk 7.62x51mm 147gr. Not bad for my eyes/this trigger/that optic/FAL. |
Have gone back and forth many times on this rifle with optics. Aimpoints. Mini Acogs. TR24. Back to Aimpoints. Finally decided I just like it with a LPVO and put on this Nikon Monarch African 1-4x20 with a German #4 reticle. Lightweight and simple. Mostly leave it turned up to x4 and point and click everything from 0 to 200. Had to dremel some relief into the rails on the ARM's mount but it's about as low as you can get.

Originally posted in GD but shared here since not everyone skulks about that wretched hive of scum and villainy. Always wanted to do a camo job on a rifle, and this FAL built almost entirely from the junk parts bin seemed like a good candidate. Everyone who builds guns has that box of parts that are either out of spec or busted to the point that you'd never pair them with quality components. But if you could find a $150 corroded out-of-spec Century Arms reject receiver, then that barrel with a rust spot, welded-up Israeli lower, wobbly-footed bolt hold-open, and carrier group of suspicious provenance suddenly have a home. Parkerizing everything failed to hide the pitting and scars, but some Rustoleum and a crapload of painter's tape did the trick. (FYI, Rustoleum dries a lot cleaner than Krylon.) Here's the result:   The flashlight is some cheap Chinese crap off Amazon. The optic is actually decent: a Leupold 1.5-4X in Leupold QD rings. |
