I need some help identifiying a FAL. I bought this gun from a coworker who couldn't tell me anything about it.

Is this a "unibrow" or "widows peak"?

The receiver says:

L1A1 Sporter Cal 308
Receiver made by IMBEL - Brazil
Imported by CAI St. Alb VT

The gun has a thumbhole stock

Its an Imbel receiver. Top notch.

This is the dreaded "unibrow" that is almost universally despised. Photo credit to "The Gunplumber."

ETA: If you don't mind sharing, what did you pay for it?

You have a Widow's Peak receiver.  Imbel's are Brazilian and of VERY high quality.  Yours is cut for metric magazines, though, so don't go buying L1A1 or Inch pattern mags for it, they won't fit.

I traded motorcycles with a guy and because my bike was worth more he traded me some guns.

I actually thought this gun was a POS and someone offered me $100 for it at a gunshow! Glad I kept it and read up on it.

Anyone know if the gun is inch or metric?

I don't know shit about FALs, and would like to put a pistol grip and stock on it... but I believe I need to add 7 parts made in the USA for it to be legal?

Looks like this but the barrel is longer.

From your description, it sounds like it's Inch.

Your picture didn't work.

Check out The FALfiles.  Lots of great stuff over there.

You won't be able to stop at one.

The unibrow ramps are only bad on Century receivers, early FN and Israeli SBL unibrow ramps work fine.

If you look at the cut in the receiver below the chamber in your original post picture and compare it to the same cut in the receiver in the next post, you'll see you have a cut for a Metric magazine, while the receiver in the next pic is an Inch pattern cut.

My Century is a uni-brow and it works fine.

Must have the only good one out there!
