You can still go shorter on the barrel and gas system and a shorter stock could be used with an M4 stock adapter.

DS Arms shows a 11" and a 13" front end here.

DSA is the one who is pushing the FAL the furthest in the USA.

possibly SBR it...
would you recommend SBR over pistol? even if its not a para?

I was looking through an old DSA catalog and on the back is the shortest FAL I've seen..an 8" barrel prototype .

How do the 11" and 13" FALs shoot?

I was talking to a guy last weekend that said he owned a DSA OSW at one time and that the recoil was brutal - like a G3 clone. Is that the case for those of you who have shot them?

My experience was the exact opposite. Perceived recoil was less with the shorter barrel.

Muzzle blast and flash are pretty massive though.

Has anyone tried a Noveske KX3 flash hider on the their short barreled FAL,yet? My Congo Para has a 16" barrel and I want to get one for it since they work so well on my 11.5" AR.

There's an OSW-length FAL with a "beer can" AK booster (the KX-3 is a copy of this) in the FAL picture thread. You'd need a 24x1.5mm adapter for it, though.

There's no need for such a device on a 16" FAL.

I wonder if you wanted to go REALLY short (like the DSA 8"er above) if you'd have to turn the bulges behind the gas piston's "head" off so you can slide the piston return spring up further. Eventually you're going to run out of room for parts, but I'd imagine you could cut the gas tube and piston down pretty short if you wanted to.

What about the gas block? It can't just go anywhere on the barrel, can it?

I don't see why not, as long as it's not right on the chamber area. Of course, you'd have to drill the gas port and turn the barrel diameter, then pin it in place.

This is really short, it`s a prototype made by the "Domingo Matheu" military arms factory in Argentina, I had the chance to shoot it, and it`s amazing !!!.
