I just picked up an FAL and am a total newbie to this game. I know I wanted a .308 and this popped up at my local shop for a reasonable price. I will get some pics up eventually but do not have a camera at the moment.

The receiver is marked:

Receiver made by Imbel-Brazil
Pars International Corp. Louisville, KY
BZ10355

The lower is just marked 99082 and has S, E, and a funky shaped square for fa.

Any ideas on exactly what I purchased?

sounds like a standard parts kit build with an imbel receiver?

How much did you pay?

I paid $925 for it with a couple mags.

Is there a way to identify what lower it has?

You might have one of the Century built "R1A1s".  Sounds like an STG-58 kit on an Imbel receiver.

What kind of furniture does it have?  Does it have a muzzle device?  Bipod, or bipod cut barrel (there are two sets of groves forward of the gas block, one for the sling swivel and the other for a bipod)?

This is my 1st of many FALs.

PS, Just looked up PARS.  Only able to find that were an import outfit.  I might have been wrong about the Century build.

After doing some checking over on the FALfiles, I was able to discover that Pars imported Imbel receivers after 1994.  However, I wasn't able to find out any info on who built yours.

Cool, thanks for checking!

It does have a muzzle device, not sure if it is a comp or a flash hider. It has metal hand guards with the folding bi-pod, black furniture, carry handle, and looks fairly similar to the one in the picture.

The lower is either a G1 or STG 58 lower. If it is an StG lower, it is Austrian (Steyr).

From the description of the other parts, it is  an StG 58. (Hopefully it is an Austrian StG 58)

You would be wise to remove the bi pod and replace the steel hand guards with wood or plastic/fiberglass hand guards.

Remove the hand guards and lok for markings. Let us know what you find. Pics would be better. If you don't know how to post pics, send them to me in an IM and I will post them for you.

Yours looks like a late model StG 58 on an imbel receiver. Good combination.
Here are images of a few metric variants for kit reference:

Shot it tonight and what a blast! It shoots way left but the group was decent, I need to figure out how to adjust the rear sight. The metal hand guards do suck and I will be ordering a replacement from DS Arms soon and I will try to get some pics of it this week. That is a great picture post, I saved every one of those pics for reference.
