OK looking for a 308 What are the differences between an FAL and a Cetme? Pros Cons try to avoid a hugh flame.... Thanks |

The FAL uses a machined receiver. The CETME uses a stamped sheet steel receiver not unlike an AK (not that there is anything wrong with that). The CETME is the forrunner of the H&K 91, 93, etc. I had a Century built CETME, if you get one that was made semi-auto properly and started out as a not too badly used up rifle it can be a good rifle. The FAL is available built on all new parts from DSA (the SA58 series), or built up from as new parts kits and either DSA receivers or from others on also good parts. From my perspective you stand a lot better chance of having a good running and maintainable rifle if you go FAL |

got both, kept both
If you find a well built CETME, it still needs a $30 Bill Springfield trigger job. It has better irons, gets 2moa on most any ammo, handles well, has slower mag changes. Cleaning the chamber flutes is no more work than the added effort of the FAL gas system imho. FALs are way easier to work on, and my Imbel builds get 2.5moa on most any stuff. G3 has a different roller lock than the CETME (more violent/reliable so they say) and buffer, for more felt recoil than either of the above 2. (sold the G3) |

The FAL is better....IMHO. That being said.....it's the Free World's Right Arm.
Do some reading about the history of both rifles and their track records. Not to mention, how many and/or which nations adopted each rifle. Maybe that says something? For us Americans, looking for a 7.62x51 battle rifle. IMHO, buy the M1A first. Then, buy the FAL. Aloha, Mark |
| I've owned both. Had problems with my Cetme with a canted front sight. I fixed it but still ended up getting rid of it. Shot fine but the Fal just "feels" better. They weight about the same but the Cetme just felt bulkier, maybe front heavy to me. With the delayed blowback I think the Cetme was a little easier on recoil. They are both tough built. |
