What say ye?

I chose "no handle", as I have no need for one. If you like a gun to be as close as possible to milspec, then a handle might be important to you. Probably not a big deal either way from an efficiency perspective.

I have both types and don't have any use for the handle. I took it off and put in a filler washer.
It does work ok, but I prefer to use the sling or hold on to the grip.

My first FAL had a handle and I replaced it with the filler washer. I would never use the handle to carry it and it got in the way.

My first FAL had a handle.  When I ordered my second FAL I got it with out the handle and liked it that way.  I removed the handle from my first FAL and replaced it with a washer because I did not need it.

I keep thinking of taking mine off since I never use it (the handle that is).

I'm gonna go against the crowd here:

I've got 3 FALs, all have handles.  On the two big ones, I actually use it to carry them.  On my little FAL I usually just keep it folded.  I'd never take them off, even if I didn't use them; when folded, I don't see them as in the way, and when they are up they look badass.

I have two FALs, one with and one without. I like it and would get another if I didn't have a bunch of projects on my plate and not enough cash.

No in Carbines, Yes in Rifles, Absolutely NOT on a Para, ABSOLUTELY on a Izzy HB.

Handles are for suitcases not rifles.  The only exception MAY be the heavy barrel variant.  That sucker gets heavy fast even on a sling.

I like to keep the handle because it looks more original...

Then, I never use the handle...

So, I guess that I just like to carry the extra weight because I'm stupid...

But, there it is...

No handle. I put a spacer in both of mine. See no use for the handle.

It is an implement of war, not a freakin' purse. (heavy barrel is the exception that makes the rule)

I have two with handles

And one without.

I want my G1 and Imbel to retain their originality as much as possible. To me, they would not look right without the handles. The DSA SA58 is fine as is too.

I like the handle from an originality perspective. It doesn't get in the way and never gets used but looks pretty good. It's on an Imbel/DSA build w/ standard length barrel.

The South Africans cut or removed their carry handles.  Not tactically sound.

Of the 4 SA kits I rebuilt, only one had no part of the carry handle at all, the others were cut just off the receiver, leaving just the ring around the gas tube nut.

The only use I've found for a handle is at the range.  Gun gets hot and sometimes you just have to move around.  One hand on the carry handle, one hand carring targets or such.

For collectors and purists, fine.  For HB users, maybe.  For true, select-fire FALS, maybe.

Every other owner of a semi-only FAL is better off without them.

For one thing, the handle promotes tactically unsound and potentially unsafe carrying habits.

Second, the handle will interfere with most scopes.

Last, the handle adds weight, can rattle, and can be tangled in slings, especially chest-carry slings.

I have two FAL's, an original G series and a built G1. They both have handles and when taking my shooter G1 out to the range I like using the handle. All personal preference. Taking the handle off the G series would be sacrilege.

In Vietnam, a common modification done by the Australian Army, especially the SAS, was to remove the carry handle.

Have one on the Imbel but refuse to use it.

I fits very tight so I don't have to worry about it flopping around a causing a problem.

I understand that a long time ago in Africa a young Lt. was blinded in one eye when an ejected case from his FAL struck the raised carry handle, bounced off the handle and hit him in the eye.

If my handle was floppy I'd remove it or cut it off.

Cheers,

I'm a minority here but I like and use the carry handle on my FAL's...and they are carbines, perfectly balanced at the handle point. Makes for easy toting through the woods. Use the one on my AR as well...
