| I was wondering what are the benifits of this type of stock. It seems that many people prefer them. I was curious as to why. Thanks Keith375 |

Arguements about who makes the best stock get religious pretty quickly. That having been said, I think that most agree that Penguin and DSA stocks are probably the highest quality US made sets. By highest quality, I mean ruggedness, fit, and finish. Beyond those quality issues, your selection should probably comes down to size and style issue. The US made sets are generally longer than most original military sets. So, for example, Penguin butt stocks are about 1/2 inch longer than either Steyr or Imbel sets. That difference may be good or bad depending on how the rifle fits you. The Penguin stocks also feature a "humpback" style design as opposed to DSA's straight design. Again, it depends on what you like. As you can imagine, the fit of the hand grips have similar issues: there are a variety of variations in size which may affect your comfort level. I personally use a Penguin butt stock and like it. Unfortunately it can be difficult to figure out what suits you best. Unless you have an unlimited budget, it is not practical to go out and buy everything just to try it. If you are unsure, your best bet is to go to a gun show and pick up a variety of different types of set-ups and see what works for you. |
