OK, I'm a total noob, just picked up a CAI R1A1 yesterday. Seems to be in pretty good shape.
I noticed my buddies T48(not sure what parts kit) had what appeared to be sand cuts on the side of the bolt... Anywhere I can get a bolt like this? Can I dremel them in? I was also thinking about having it hard chrome so it's nice and slick...

Any thoughts?

Also, be advised,,

If you change the bolt carrier, you will need to have the weapon head-spaced..

Good Luck..

Details pls.  I thought the headspace is set between the bolt and the shoulder locking lug.  Bolt carrier should not affect this

The DSA para carrier won't work by itself in a non-Para upper.  You would need the Para top cover with recoil springs as a minimum.  Upper may need some machining for the Para nose cut and the rear of the lower would need the Para cut also.

The L1A1 carrier is the way to go with no modifications necessary.  They are interchangable.

You should check the headspace anyway if you change out the carrier.

Actually If you change carriers and not the bolt, you should be fine. I have done it multiple times over the years. It is a good idea to have the head space checked.
