in about a year i will be of legal age to purchase a firearm and i am wondering what my best choice would be so far with the money i have ive narrowed it down to these AK 47 and SVD HK G3 FN FAL out of those what would you say the best choice is. |
Yep, especially the HK. You might want to look into getting a JLD PTR91 HK clone. The FAL is a fine rifle, but, for a beginner, I recommend a basic AR15. The AR15 is much simpler (direct impingement gas system) and much easier to clean. Not to mention FAL ammo at reasonable prices is pretty much non-existent these days. BTW, most will concur that the best FAL out there for the money is an Austrian STG58. |

oh, i understand that, and i have done my reserch. ive seen those rifles run 1500 on some sites. but none the less, aside of price , what would you guys recomend to be the best rifle for a begginer. hell, by the time i can get my first firearm im probly guna have about 3 grand to spend |

how much will you be shooting the rifle? 308 ammo has skyrocketed in price, AK ammo has as well, hell all ammo but 22LR has increased! also, how picky about accuracy are you? an AR is awsome for sub moa accuracy. AK is fun for blasting things but not worrying about tight groups on paper, i can not comment on the FLA just yet as i am about 90% done building my first one. i give annother vote for an AR or one of the AR clones with gas piston uppers like the XCR, SCAR, etc |
| well, as far as accuracy goes, i like an accurate gun but the accuracy of the rifle doesnt have to be 100% ( for the 1st rifle at least) but i still have a little bit of a thing about accuracy. I will be shooting the rifle probly around every weekend maby occationaly during the week ( unfortunatly i cant bring my rifle on my campus thus i will have to leave it in our country house). I understand thanks to desgusting pig communist liberals such as Hillary Cliton and Carolyn McCunty ammo and the price of most firearms has gone up, but none the less, i am willing to spend money on ammo ( hell , i may even get an ammo press if the price gets to crazy) |

You're kidding, right? The FAL is a lot easier to clean than an AR, when it needs to be cleaned at all. For one thing, the action is going to stay (relatively) clean, not to mention it's easy to break down the bolt and other components. Not that the AR is hard, but the FAL is easier when it comes to maintenance. I do agree on the point about ammo getting expensive. If you reload (You're going to anyway. May as well start early.), you can bring the cost back down out of the stratosphere. Edit: Out of those listed, the FAL is a fine choice. The others are all right, but, then again, the FAL's my favorite rifle. |
For me the best choice is the FAL, and since you're posting in the FAL section maybe you lean more that way. However unless you have a much higher than average income for a 17-18 yo or your family owns an ammo factory I would get the AK first. Simple low cost and you can find ammo at a reasonable cost. Most guys here didn't start with $1000 plus FALs and G3's a $350 or so AK and low cost ammo might be a better place to start. Good luck, J-K |
| well, to get one thing streight, i am not a begginer at shooting. Ive ben doing it my whole life, i just never personally owned a firearm. My parents refused to let me buy my own until im at legal age to do so. My dad got a Ruger 10/22 and its fun to shoot , he also got a remington Model 700 a mossberg 1100 and a few others. Ive never owned or shot any assault rifles though. god those guns were in such terrible condition until i got though with them but anyway. This will be the first gun i personnaly own. I have about 1000-1500 saved now (it was orrigianly for a car). Oh and when i say SVD i mean the Romanian Dragunovs for 700$ , not the original. So far im leaning twords the AK/SVD or the FAL but its no where near definate yet |

If you're like the rest of us, you're going to get it all, so really it's just a matter of in what order you buy them. I've owned both the 91 (a HK no less), which I quickly sold, and a DSA FAL. After owning both, I have no use for the 91. Better sights, trigger, mags, balance, and less weight on the FAL. The 91 has a recoil intensifyer I swear, as it kicked worse than my Rem 700. The FAL is nice and smooth and soft. Eaiser to scope with the DSA scope mount too. Short answer, if you have the money now, buy a good FAL such as the DSA. Have a gun dealer order you one. Also, you can do a Dell with DSA and have it configured just as you like it. I ordered a la carte and got a 18" bbl, long gas action, SAW grip, X-stock, night sights, and had the sling swilve placed on the handguard for a side mount instead of at a right angle on the bbl. You can always scrounge up a few hundred bucks for a AK when you wish. |
