| Ok, i'm buying a century FAL (i know, i know, spare me please) and it's got the post-ban bare barrel. i'm going to have it cut down to 18 inches, and then have it threaded for a muzzle brake. does anyone think i'm crazy for wanting to put one of the AK-74 style muzzle brakes on it? i've heard they're very effective so i'd think it'd be neat to try out. |

On an 18" barrel, and speaking from a tactical viewpoint, you would be far better off to install a flash suppressor. I've seen shorty ARs shooting the same ammo side-byside, and the Russki brake seems to accentuate muzzle flash. It's original purpose was to aid in control during F-A firing, with a different cartridge altogether. If you must have a brake, then at least get one designed to work with the 7.62 NATO round. In all honesty, and IMHO, Brakes are almost never indicated for S-A fire with a FAL. YMMV. |

Listen to raf, nix the AK brake they are louder than heck....., not just for you but anyone happening to be shooting around you, (unless of course your the type of guy who likes folks bitchin at ya about the noise) Call Smith Enterprises and get yourself a 308 Vortex, (might as well buy the best).
