Hi guys, I just purchased my first FAL on monday, and on my first trip to the range, I noticed a few things. First and most important, the trigger really sux, bad. I don't have a scale, but it must be at least 8-9 lbs. Is there a decent (not terrebly expensive) aftermarket trigger set out there? The trigger looks alot like a 10-22 trigger group just bigger, and I can make those triggers nice with a little work, so I may go that route, but I would rather buy something professionally done. And second, it throws brass everywhere, forward, backward, and way right, is this normal for these guns? also, is there a buffer that goes on the back of the ejection port to keep it from beating up the brass and leaving brass marks all over my reciver? Do any of you guys have any experiance with the DSA scope mount/brass catcher, if it is as solid as it looks, it might be worth it. I am also curious as to what spares I need to buy to keep this thing running for a long time. by the way, the rifle is a DSA 16" carbine, and I love it so far. Ps. sorry for all of the questions in my first post in this forum. |

Some people install a lighter spring pack, this works to some degree; but your still stuck with the long gritty creep. Send me an email and I can fix you up. I have performed many hundreds of trigger jobs for members of Arfcom and the Falfiles. Thanks, Bill Springfield [email protected] |

My FAL also has a DSA hammer, trigger and sear. The Falcon Arms TPR kit really helped improved mine. The finish on the edge of the sear showed uneven wear so I very lightly dressed that surface with a stone, by hand. After installing the new springs I lubed the engaement areas with grease. Try it! It's only $20 bucks and it's easy to install. I've used mine with several types of surplus 7.62 and have not had any problems. The trigger pull is smooth on mine. Good luck, Flyer |
Yep, the trigger is the WORST Thing about an FAL, even a DSA. The Falcon Spring Kit helped, but I left the DSA hammer spring in as the Falcon spring wouldn't ignite PORT ammo about 80% of the time. There are gunplumbers out there that polish the trigger parts to make it smoother, but only so much can be done with that design. As everyone says, "It's a battle rifle, not a Match rifle."
Yes... and Yes. Yes, it throws brass everywhere, especially when new. It gets more predictable as it wears in, you use the same ammo with the same gas setting, etc... As for a buffer, some stick felt on the upper receiver where brass hits, but if you do that, you will get chuckled at by the FAL veterans... The "brass kisses" are a sign you actually SHOOT the rifle... like battle scars. Be proud of them...
The integrated brass catcher bag is VERY NICE, but only really worth it if you RELOAD and want to keep your brass. The DSA mount is strong and well respected by most with FAL's. As for spare parts... full kits are only $150. Buy one... It will be cheaper in the long run with much more options later on. I too have a 16" DSA SA-58, and I love mine as well... Rmpl |

The pre-ban SAR48 HB (Izzy HB) I used to have a long time ago had a pretty decent trigger. It was no match rifle by any means but it was pretty good. Out of all the black rifles I've had over the years, that's the one I should have kept. < wipes a tear away > I got to go... Flyer |
Nasty, you wanna talk about a nasty trigger, I just bought a RRA M4 lower for my bushy M4 upper (??????? Don't ask it's a Rockmaster or a Bushriver, I don't know which) anyway the Rock lower has the single most crapulous trigger I have ever owned. Needs work, I am going to get after it next weekend with a slipstone and some rouge...My SA58 carbine trigger isn't too bad. With regards to throwing brass hither and yon open the regulator up 'till it short strokes then close it two clicks, see if that doesn't help. Q |
