I have a Century L1A1 Sporter (British parts kit on Imbel inch receiver with thumbhole stock) that I want to convert to a pistol grip gun. I want to keep the conversion as simple as possible while replacing the correct number of parts for 922r compliance. It seems that the easiet metod would be replacing the furniture with a U.S. made Century set, (3 parts) a U.S. gas piston from Tapco, (1 part) and U.S. made floorplates and followers (2 parts). Would there be any better way to do the parts replacement for compliance? What company is a good source for inch mag floorplates and followers? |
I did one a few years ago. The US made parts I used were: hammer. trigger, sear, gas piston, pistol grip, handguard, and muzzle brake. All you need is 7 US parts (6 if your barrels muzzle is not threaded and you have no attachment on it). I also have some inch floorplates and metric followers and floorplates, but they're not really needed in my case. I got them in case I ever decide I want to put the original pistol grip and/or handguard on there. I don't really see that happening though. I like mine as is. You will really be glad you changed away from that nasty thumbhole stock. Not only because it's ugly, but because your trigger pull will get immensely lighter/better. By the way, when you put the standard pistol grip on there you'll need to get an original trigger spring, 'cause the one century used was not standard (you can find them online). You'll also need to get or make an adaptor to put through the hole in the lower receiver where the pistol grip matches up, 'cause the people at century cut/ground off the original lug for the grip. I've seen a couple of places sell the little drop through lug adaptors though. I think I got mine at gunthings.com? Can't remember for sure. - Or you could just buy another lower receiver that hasn't been subjected to the angry beavers at CAI.  Anyhow, good luck with it. I know you'll like it a lot better when you're finished.

hammer,trigger,sear falcon arms pistol grip(if you want brit pebble grain) tapco piston charging handle ( a few choices) floor plates & followers If you prefer wood Ironwoods makes some beautiful wood furniture & it would count as 3 parts don't get the tapco furniture. call James at gunpartsguy.com he was very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. I'm getting some refinished brit pebble grain furniture from him. Don't forget the little metal piece the angry beavers cut off. I'm going through the same process right now. Found an imbel L1A1 locally for $380 and couldn't pas it up. |
And I even have 2 L1A1's--one being a Century--wish it was that easy to use X series furniture-duh
