Hello! I'm talking with a fellow AR15.commer regarding a trade. He has a M-444 FAL that has been carbined. I have two Austrian StG58's but are not familar with the M-444. If I understand right, are these Israeli? Will / are these parts interchangeable with European Metric FALs? Any comments on the quality / accuracy / dependablity of the M-444s? I have heard locally some things not so flatering about the quality of the M-444s, from "Gun Store Commados" so I'd value the opinions and experiences of the "Hive Mind" of fellow shooters. Sound Off!! BIGGER_HAMMER

IIRC they were South American Imbel kits assembled on South American Imbel Receivers in Israel. That does not make them an "Izzy" in the overall sense. It would be an "Imbel." It is a typical Metric design so most stuff would interchange with the European non inch pattern guns. I never heard of any bad word about them with the exception of the M444 came with a helluva recoil increaser (muzzle brake.) Here is a link to a for sale ad with some discussion. You can also do a search there and come up with more. www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?s=252344bf216f36e2bf36040a64091968&threadid=166964 |

I had one for awhile and liked it very well. I had to trade it away for a Rock River DCM match rifle we thought we had to have at the time. I don't think they are made in Israel. Mine was built in Liberty Texas by Liberty Arms for IAI. In fact I had to send it to them because the hammer broke. It was repaired quickly. +1 on changing the muzzle brake for a real combo device of other flash suppressor. My current FAL is also all Imbel. Imbel is some good stuff. Chrome lined barrel!! FAL's rock!! Be safe, Flyer |

I believe they took a FAL which was made in Brazil by Imbel and then sold to Argentina and replaced the Imbel receiver with another Imbel receiver. I agree that the rifle was reassembled in Texas and isn't really Israeli. I have had no problems with mine. I would certainly buy another one if the price were right. Drakejake |
