| check out my pic in the FAL gallery page 16...I went with the DSA tactical set up also......heres my question now, I went with the stainless steal barrel instead of DSAs chrome molly barrel......is there a difference as far as accuracy between the stainless steal barrel and a barrel that is chrome lined?? I know a chrome lined barrel is supposed to last long but I am thinking a stainless barrel should last even longer......my rifle gets very good groups but I have been shooting indoor and max range is 50yrds....school me |
I haven't gone to a para yet, but my Congo was build on a DSA Type 1 receiver, with an Argentinian StG para barrel with chrome lining...great shooter! ROCK6 |

SS doesn't hold up to high heat as well as C. Moly. Chrome lined won't be as accurate as a non Chromed barrel. Chrome lined barrels are meant for abuse, not accuracy. Are chrome lined barrels still accurate, sure. They will meet the needs of most shooters. But non CL are "more" accurate. Generally speaking. |
| want2race thanks buddy...actually called DSA yesterday spoke to the technician...told me most accurate would be SS and CM......chrome lined is meant for abuse and for alot of rounds in a very short period of time...also for guys in the field who cant clean regularly |
Bbl wear will accelerate more with heat, which is where chrome helps most. Chrome is not critical for a plinker. I have an Argy chromed bbl as a spare for my 2 Imbel guns with chrome chambers only. |
On a military style rifle, I'll take chrome lined bores any time I can - my Bushmaster, M1Garand, and one of my FALs have chrome lined bores, and they're all very accurate... There is no doubt that a chrome lined bore lasts longer, cleans up easier, and can withstand less frequent cleaning than a non-chrome lined bore... Chrome lining is also said to increase velocity, and aid in extraction - although I cannot prove nor disprove that... Chrome for me, please - the exception being a rifle set up for competition, then it won't likely see the abuse the others will... - georgestrings |
This is an impossible combination. StGs were made in Belgium and Austria. None of the StGs were made in the para configuration. None of the StG barrels were chrome lined. |
Where did you get a chrome-lined barrel for an M1? |
Well, after further inspection, it appears I made a mistake - it's an HRA Garand with an HRA barrel, and it isn't chrome lined... I don't know why I was thinking that, other than I hadn't looked at it in a while... - georgestrings |
