Ok so recently, and actually longer, ive wanted a fal. Need something powerful and accurate long ranges.
Originally I was thinking G3, but i went and tested both at a range, liked the FAL more.
I know there are many ways to go about getting a FAL, just wondering what yalls view on this are.

DSA Arms Fal's: Are they worth the cash? And how good are they.
Build it myself (Ive seen alot of sites offering FAL kits):Which company is reliable? Is FAC any good for FAL kits?

Also, which is better, metric or standard? Just yeh.
Im new to FALs so these are the typical noob questions and i really didnt want to read through all of the forums to find my answers, call me lazy sometimes.

And the last question, just how accurate would a FAL set up for a marksman role be? I mean are they inherintly accurate by themselves?

A lot of people think so, and they are very good weapons.

Metric.

With a well built rifle and good quality ammo they can be quite accurate, 1 MOA is not a problem.

Checked out DSA, damn ouch.
I want that Para Congo, damn thats a nice nice gun.
but the price makes me twitch, im just a full time student right now. Already got 5 grand into what i got, but yeh 2 grand is gonna be hard.
Id be much more up for building one.
How easy is it to do that and is DSA the only one with a para stock?

You want the metric because both types of mags will run well in it. Doing an FAL build has one big problem. Apparently doing the head space really sucks. Also from what I've heard stay away from the Century R1 no matter how good a deal it is.

Look for a deal on a DSA STG-58.

You should be able to get one for about $900.

yeh dsa im liking.
As for the headspace, no worries, got a gunsmith friend to handle that at a local shop here.
he did all the custom work on my 1911 and mossberg.
But im seriously liking DSA's para one, well moreso the folding stock.
Every rifle of mine has a folding or collapsing stock, i love the things because it helps my limited storage space.
anyway to get the same folder stock with a normal fal?

u352,  I think you got that backwards.  IIRC, during the Falkland Island war the Argentine metric mags could be used in the British english FAL's and not the other way round.

question..how good are Century Arm's fals?
The reason i ask is because my 1911 is a century, or it was rather.
The only parts in it still factory are the reciever and slide, all internals have been upgraded to Wilson Combat stuff.
But ive probably put 500rnd through that pistol and never had a problem, so yeh.
Just wondering if century has a bad rep like vulcan does.

Century arms is a crap shoot, but might be worth a chance. FAL's are very easy to work on

I have built 5 of my 6 FAL's without a problem, headspacing was as simple as chewing bubblegum and walking.

you can put a Para folder on a regular style FAL but, you have to change the bolt carrier/add a para scope mount or have the reciever machined for a para top cover to fit and function

I have a para and find it quite accurate/easy to store/ downright cool

Ok way to confusing so far, or maybe it might be the fact its 7:30am.
I think im gonna go century arms or FAC, just because i dont want to spend (Cant spend also) the prices DSA are asking for, but also I trust century arms.
I might be nuts but i own a century arms, and i have friends who own them.
Basically ive heard that the G3's from them are for shit, but the fals are ok since its hard to screw a fal up (Hence why i like em)
What im gonna do is talk to a gunsmith friend and tell him where i want the stuff from, what i want and yeh. presto.
Definately getting a para for the storagage issue. Im in a 2nd floor apartment so lugging a gunsafe up here wasnt happening, ended up fortifing my walk in closet door and use that for storage. half of the thing is like clothes and stuff, other half is guns. i figure 4ft wide and 5ft long isnt that bad of a space

I just got my STG kit from FAC last week,  the niciest I have ever seen!  90-95%-Damn near new!  The price was right, it came in 3 days!  Now the wait is on for an Imbel rec.  I enjoy journey of building it.  If your a "need it now!" kinda guy,  don't get into a kit (more for me).

Nah im not a need it now sorta guy.
Lemme put it this way. Im only 21 (yeh yeh im a youngin lol), but i have my own collection. One thing i noticed is that most of the stuff is factory still. I dislike factory, just cause i like to customize stuff to my uses and liking.
I mean my 1911 is full custom, so is my current mossberg (Well to the extent that you can modify one).
So right now im going to be concentrating on getting parts to customize my other firearms as well as getting magazines and ammo for em.
So the fal was never a thing i was considering for like this month, itll be a few months down the road.
And kit wise, just going to end up taking all the parts and handing em over to a gunsmith simply because i trust him more then i trust myself when it comes to building a firearm.
