Does the spring need to be greased or lubed where it rides on the piston ?
Yeah, but not much. I actually have fired mine dry and it still runs like a Swiss watch. The place it needs the most lube is on the recoil spring. Put some on the bolt carrier rails but leave the gas piston dry or use a dry lube. All you'll do by lubing it is to gum it up and slow it down.
I alwas wipe mine down after shooting it. Then before shooting it I wipe it dry. I do the same thing with gas tube. A little oil stays on it, but after the first few shots it burns offs anyways. After having one of my FALs gas tube rust once, I alwas oil it before putting it away.
