I just purchased a standard FAL carbine from ORF, and I have a question.  This carbine is built on a Imbel receiver, and I believe it is a G1 kit.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

I want to remove the gas piston, but I am having a difficult time.  First off my carbine does not have the typical gas plug.  This gas plug has a Leif attached to it, and it looks like it is used for the grenade launcher.  How do I remove this?  Thanks in advance.

Here are a couple of pics.

Here is a better look at the front end.

First off nice FAL there . Yes you have a grenade launching site. to remove it flip the site leaf parallel to the barrel, then the long stub sticking out goes toward the barrel, it may make contact with the barrel. use a bullet or a small punch to push the stub up and this should release the gas plug.
I know these gas plugs are alittle wierd and take some getting used to but I like my. . I hope this helps out.

Nice rifle.

Sorry I can't help you on your problem but if you don't mind me asking, what did it cost you? I have been looking at FAL's from ORF and have been wondering about the price.

SJetwrench has it right.  I like the look of the grenade launching plug, but it will mar the finish on top of the barrel.  I just live with it.

Sjet,  I was able to remove the gas piston fairly easy with your helpful instructions.  Yeah I think the Grenade launching plug looks cool as well, but now I need to get some grenades. (Just joking).

The price of the carbine was $615 shipped to my FFL, but ORF was having a sale at the time.  I am not sure if the price is still the same or not, but I would not hesitate to give Todd at ORF a call.  He answered all of my stupid questions, and was very helpful.

I ordered my carbine from Todd on December 11th, and and the rifle shipped on the 19th.  Pretty damn quick when you consider this rifle was built to my specifications.  The barrel is 16.25 with the DSA short STG brake permanently attached, and sporting the green Penguin furniture.

The rifle was shipped in a hardcase with one mag, and the Imbel manual.

I hope to take it out this weekend if the snow in the coastal mountains isn't too bad.

Thanks for the compliments.

More eye candy

I've said it before, I'll say it again... I think ORF is the best bang for the buck for a custom built FAL.  You can spend more, and maybe it will be a little nicer, but that is a whole lotta firearm for $615!

No problem on the helping hand. But watch out you are in danager of becoming a FAL-addict, next it will be a Izzy clone, or a L1A1, or a heavy barrle, or a STG. Oh the maddness begins.
. I have a STG carbine and a Izzy clone carbine(this is the one with the grenade launching site). Both are a Blast to shoot!!!!!

not possible.  dont listen to him. one FAL is enough.  just go out and shoot your new fal, and be sure to check out all of the ohter cool configurations and rest assured you will NEVER  feel the urge to get another FAL.

trust me....

Yeah I already want an STG, and would like to own a Izzy as well.

This site has helped facilitate my firearm addiction.  I must confess that I am an AK, AR, and now a Falaholic.  You know what they say "You can't have just one"!

Cliffy,  I do visit the Falfiles, but I do not post often.  I got it  I have been assimilated!

Now your screwed. If not already, you will start thinking about barrel length, furniture type and color, overall weight, optics, which side of the bed it just ugly from here. Have fun.
