I have always called it F  A  L.  But DSA calls them FALS sounds like sal but with an F.  I call them expensive and adictive.

I love these threads
In America, its usually spelled out; F-A-L, but the Belgians say it "fall". However, there is no "Belgian" language, they either speak Dutch or French.
"Fusil Automatique Leger" is a French term. [:\]

Instead of saying FN FAL, I say "'effin F-A-L".

They understand, and the sharp listeners get a laugh.

How do the french say it?

If they say "fall" I will ALWAYS call mine a F-A-L.

Goodness, you've never met any Belgians, have you?  The Dutch speak Dutch.  Of course, Flemish and Dutch are so similar that they can understand each other, but never tell them they are the same unless you are looking for a fight.

I like "fal" (less syllables), but I hear it in my head as more like "foul" rather than "fall"..... like faal.

when I see it(such as here) I usually think in my head..

FAL = Pal with an "F"

.. I've always thought that F-N F-A-L sounds pretty dumb.

Its like your in a spelling bee.

Hows abouts CETME? You guys spell that out too?

"set-me"?

tivoli410, just curious how you say PPSh?  Or AK-47?  Or AR-15?

You do bring up a good point though.  I say F-A-L, but for the CETME I say "Set-me."  Weird.

The first time I heard the term was out of the mouth of a Belgian soldier.  He pronounced it sorta like "fawl."  That's how I have pronounced it since, but I have noticed that that seem to not really be the "standard" pronunciation in the US.

i posed this same question months ago and came to the conclusion that there is no "official" pronunciation.  now i just say what ever i can spit out st the time.  F-A-L, fal, fall, fusil automatique leger(i dont use this one often), whatever, i figure if they dont know what you are talking about no matter how you say it, they're stupid.

btw: i ALWAYS say set-me

I call it the "F-A-L."  If you you call it that "fal" then what the hell do you call the FNC? "fanuck?"

Of course, I am totally stumped on the CETME, and actually skipped looking at one because i had no idea what to call it w/o looking like a dumbass!  Maybe the informal rule is one or two letters or no vowels, you pronounce the letters, otherwise you try to make it into a word?
