www.usarmory.com/ftp/14kit1.jpg How are these??? Supposing a receiver can be found, is it fairly easy to build your own M1A type rifle? Any links for build instructions appeciated, thanks. |
| i have spent LOTS of $$$$ at US Armory and have been verry pleased with John's parts.. while i haven't bought a M-14 kit from him, i doubt you can go wrong going with his parts kit.. as for assembling it.. the only hard part is to install and correctly index the barrel... since GI barrels are cromed lined and a little generous in the chamber.. it should headspace with no trouble at all... i would suggest getting Scott Duff's M-14/M1A Owners Guide it is VERRY helpful in maintaining and assembling a M-14/M1A type rifle |

In this case I don't know how building one would put you ahead. New Standard Springfield M1A--$1200+or- US Armory Kit--$699 Enterprise M1A Receiver--$600=$1299 and you still have to put it together or pay a gunsmith. And you'll still have a weapon with no factory warrenty. And also there have been some QC problems with Enterprise. The only plus I can see is that you would have a M1A with all GI parts. My preban Springfield standard runs just fine with a TRW bolt as the only genuine GI part. |

You could save a little money and get an Armscorp receiver. They are not as horrible as all of the urban-legend posts would lead you to believe, and Armscorp will make it right if there is a problem. You could always buy a Springfield commercial rifle for $1,000 and replace the parts with USGI over time. That way, you would also accumulate spare parts. All you would really want to replace would be the operating rod and, maybe, the flash suppressor. Another option is to buy a preban M1A and be done with it. They can be had for $1,000. |

You can order a stripped M1A receiver from Springfield through your local FFL. I think they're running under $400, if I remember correctly. They aren't perfect, but they tend to have far fewer issues than Entreprise or Armscorp receivers. US Armory's parts are, IME, great. I've ordered many with no problems at all. I would certainly get the kit from them were I going to build another one. Have someone who knows M1A's at least fit and headspace the barrel and bolt. |
Then you want the G.I. kit and a Chinese receiver. |
Unfortunately SA Inc hasn't sold stripped receivers for well over a year now and they don't plan on it any time soon as they are using them to build up complete rifles :-( |
