[ARCHIVED THREAD] - CMP Carbines (Page 1 of 3)

Just got the email. CMP has a "small" number of carbines for sale. Service grade $685, field grade $625. Orders accepted starting Feb 1. A few (I gather very very few) will be available at both North and South store.
Based on the description these sound a bit tired. Obviously all have been through rebuild at least once. Several makers available but luck of the draw on what you get. I've already got a nice Inland so I won't be purchasing any of these. Let the frenzy begin. |
| The last batch of carbines was where I got my Inland for IIRC $475. I received a late Inland with all the rebuild parts and a brand new potbellied SA stock set. Mainly got it to fill the hole in my accumulation. I still prefer the Garand, although taking my nieces to the range and letting them shoot the carbine was fun. I'll give everyone else a fraction better chance by staying out of this one. |
|
Putting mine in the mail tomorrow. Been wanting one to go with my Garand and been kicking myself for years for not ordering when they were like $350.
Terrible timing for me. I'm buying car parts left and right because I'm in the middle of an engine swap and 5-speed conversion for my '69 Mustang while waiting for stamp to come in to finish a SBR build. But I'll just send off thinking, if it's meant to be it will happen. |

I'm torn on this one. I'd like another carbine but I would no doubt get an Inland since I already have 3 of them. I guess at worst I could turn around and sell it and get my money back. thats where Im at...In all honesty I am probably good on carbines. I already own a winchester with original barrel, an inland and two underwoods and with my luck I'd get another inland or underwood. I'd almost rather just wait until something I don' have is posted for sale privately and grab that. In addition I had another service grade garand planned for purchase later this year, and also have some class 3 stuff I want to get in soon. As if thats not enough the timing of the release sucks also...No way I can get to the post office today for overnight or monday delivery, and I don't want to pay the 90 bucks or whatever it is for UPS monday delivery |

How do preorders work at the CMP? I got in on the last round of M1 Carbines but that was years ago, and I've forgotten. If I mail in my order tomorrow and it gets there before Feb 1, what happens? Should I just wait and overnight it on Saturday? During the recent International Harvester rush, the understanding was that orders that arrived early were filed in the circular file. There is no pre-order. They accept orders on a certain date, not before. |

Should I just wait and overnight it on Saturday? CMP does not get mail on Saturdays, if you mail it today overnight or 2 day priority it should be there on 2/1, early orders are discarded, so if some way an order showed up today it would not be counted. |
Was going to priority one in today...then I decided to snail mail it when I went to the post office...now I think I want my order back. Don't really need an M1 Carbine I suppose. Guess I'll leave it to fate with the little postage stamp. If it gets there in time for a Service Grade, so be it.

What sounds tired about it? I have picked a few service grades, a field grade, and a rack grade. The only tired thing on them was the recoil spring. For the past few years about the only chance of getting any more from the CMP is through the auctions. And those routinely top $1000. |

I am in a similar boat. I already have a Winchester, Underwood, and Quality Hardware. I am hoping for a Standard Products or IBM. I am not too concerned about the Inland. They are the most plentiful and I just sold one. If I get a duplicate manufacturer, I will just pick the better of the two and sell the other. |

I want one, but if all they have is a "small number", I'm sure they will be gone, by the time I'm ready to order. I would mail a order ASAP if I wanted one. They will likely have enough orders to exhaust the supply within a few days, if not ON the first day. |

A 2 day priority envelope should get there Monday if USPS does their jobs and would could about $6 Quoted:

Every time they have one of these sales, I send in an order on Friday or Saturday, and I am included in the Monday delivery of regular mail. |
|
fuck it..
express mail for 3 pm delivery monday.. worst case is I get something I don't like/want and sell it without losing money. Best case is I get something I don't have and sell one of the duplicate underwoods i have. I also have to admit, am slightly addicted to the whole CMP process...Dropping a packet off in the mail and than getting that box from fed ex is a lot of fun.
|
| Went to UPS to get my form notarized and then they wanted $73 to get it there on Monday. I then took my paperwork to USPS and paid $6.45 to have it there on Monday. I just hope there aren't any issues because I'm stationed in CA (had to put my CA address for credit card info) but have it sent to my parents' house in IN. |

| I'm kind of worried about the same thing. I'm stationed in Ramstein and I couldn't remember for the life of me what was the last address I used, so I just used my home of record. My shipping address was the same, but now I'm worried. I have ordered two Garands over here but it was over a year ago and I have moved since then. I hope everything works out! |

Wasn't that the same Carbine description that was posted on the site this weekend? There is a notation farther down the page when you click on "M1 Carbine". It covers the newly available Carbines. Quoted:

Sent mine snail mail on Friday....not feeling good about it. Any chance that they panicked at the amount of mail and are trying to shut down the inflow or do you all think there isn't enough stock to fulfill all the order? They always shut it down when they think they have enough orders. I wouldn't worry about it. I bet they fulfill any orders they get the whole week, if not longer. |

ETA: I wonder exactly how many they had . Old CMP Forum thread from 2013 claimed 1300ish M1 Carbines arrived aND would be pushed to some time 2014...2 years later with some off to auctions during that time...possibly that shipment but I didn't dig too deep. |

Here is what the CMP Chief Operating Officer posted on the CMP forums earlier today. There will be lots of unhappy people.
We will randomly pick and process from 1 Feb. stack of orders. We received over 5000 orders for a little more than 1000 Carbines on hand. We hope to receive close to a 1000 more in the next week or so. We will process orders for the first 1000 or so on hand Carbines and then fill back orders with the 1000 or so that are on the way to us now... The 1000 or so on the way to us now are from Army inventory. |
|
Hey guys, Does anyone know/remember if CMP will notify us if we won the "lottery" or not? It would be nice to get an email etc. but I am sure they are swamped just fulfilling orders. Hopefully, I get lucky and I am already nervous for the 1911's. That is a MUST have! |

A3 was 100% correct and in fantastic shape! Throat and barrel were awesome, guaged at less than 1. The enfield was a WWII refurb as basically all of them were but it was almost 100% match. Replaced the bolt with a Remington one and now it's 100% correct. Both rifles ended up being Remington so I was stoked. I regret not going for a 1903 but those other two set me back a grand. Like the carbines, those sold out in a day. I'm waiting on the 1911s. It will probably be a year, maybe longer but I can wait...

Bad ass! Hopefully it's a real one versus those recently made one! Post pics when if/when you get it!

Don't know when my order got there but it looks like it will not matter. I ordered a service grad Garand just to hedge my bet.
My dad taught me to shoot with an M1 carbine My brother and I own that one and I have two imports from the 80's one with the barrel stamp one without, that were cheap. Its an addiction. |
