MODS! this is neither a solicitation to sell or an offer to do so, simply a feeler to determine the worth of what I"m in posession of.....

now that we've got that little tidbit out of the way, I just want to say that I'm a bit of an impulse buyer with OCD: if I need a few of something, I usually end up buying several times what I need

I'm going to start stockpiling up some .308 ammo & wanted to get some stripper clips: damn! people want a fortune for them.  because I'm also a tightwad, I will literally search for a week or longer to find the best prices on something.

I ended up getting a boatload (o.k., that may be a bit of an exaggeration) of various stripper clips for 308: after going through them & picking out several hundred, I'm now left with about 233 assorted brass, 57 steel & a couple parkerized 308 stripper clips (5 round).

weird to see the variation in components of the clips: with the brass, there are brass springs, steel springs & yes, even some without springs; some have marks on them, most don't.

to make a short question long (hmmmm seems I already did),

what is the value of these (I've seen 'em listed for up to 2 or 3 bucks each...Fuck that, I don't wanna rape anyone) and is there really any place that is better than the other for selling them?

TIAFYH

Jeff

The value of the stripper clips is determined by their condition, the caliber of the ctg(s) that they were designed to hold, and also by which firearm(s) it is intended to fit.

I understand that these were sold to you as 7.62/.308 stripper clips.  Rather unlikely that such was their originally intended purpose, since 7.62 ammo post-dates the manufacture of most stripper clips, excepting the M-14 style, which these do not appear to be.  FWIW, if they will fit 7.62/.308. they will also fit .30-'06 and any other ctgs based on the same ctg cases.

Stripper clips are not at all universal.  For example, the rusty metal ones with two bumps on each side are most likely Mauser stripper clips.  No idea what ctg(s) it will hold, but should fit most any Mauser.

Sptingfield/M1917 stripper clips were intentionally made differently from Mauser stripper clips, in an (unsuccessful) attempt to avoid paying Mauser patent royalties.  Mauser and Springer stripper clips will both fit one type of rifle, but I don't recall which type it is.  M1A/M-14 stripper clips are different from both.

You need to find out for certain which attributes pertain, and market them appropriately.  The rusty stripper clips will need to be dis-assembled, cleaned-up, given an inerting treatment, and tested.  The brass ones might be GTG as-is, but dis-assembly and cleaning is highly suggested.  Any of the springs that have more than a little, surface pitting should be considered suspect, and used for the range until they fail.

Note that any offers for sale/swap/buy are to be posted in the EE ONLY.
