I bought an old split rail #18 mount from a member recently and I'm very happy with the product.  The only problem is that I can't seem to find an appropriate tool for the front button adjustment.  It takes a "forked screwdriver" type bit.  I've bought a couple sets of bits but none of them are quite wide enough to fit.  I modified a flat head screwdriver but it kept slipping and started to mar up one of the slots.  The button seems to really be on tight.

1.  It there a specific tool I can find to take this off?
2.  How exactly can I go about getting a replacement part?

I like to avoid going to a gunsmith but might wind up really damaging this piece if I continue to dick with it.  Either way, it would be really nice to install a new part once I get this one removed.  Any help, and I mean ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.  My project is dead in the water until I get this resolved.

I used the search function and only came up with a couple vague references.

ETA - I wrote A.R.M.S. an email asking if I could purchase a replacement part.  I never received a response.

I can't offer any assistenace on the tool as mine is not the split rail type, but I broke 2 mounting bolts and called them each time. I got an answer both times on the first try and they were more than accommodating.

Not sure if the old split rail the same, but what I did with the newer one was used two nail finisher. You could probably get by with a really tiny nail. Just keep turning them until they touch the base. It doesn't need great torque to work just enough to where there isn't wiggle room and it is pushing up. Use loctite on the front screw and you should be good to go.

You can buy the actual tool here: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-snap-ring-pliers/p-00945358000P

Update...

I couldn't get away.  I had to figure this thing out.  I took a small screwdriver and managed to get it a little loose by tapping the grooves of the collar.  It got to where I could move it about 1/8th of an inch in either direction.  After a couple good whacks, I got it moving counter clockwise but was still very, very stiff.  It took a good 10 minutes of tapping, but it finally came out of the top.  What I saw pretty much explained the whole problem.  One side of the collar, where the set screw made contact, was completely mashed in.  The threads were all chewed up at that one point and that's why it was so hard to move.

Needless to say, I can't reuse the collar nut.  The threads are crap and I chewed up the two top grooves pretty good, too.  The button appears ok, has slight marks from the tapping.  I took the iddy biddy snap ring off, so it's bent up now.  I guess I'll be calling ARMS tomorrow and praying they can sell me a whole new pad assembly.  Man, it would be great if I could get two, one for back up.

Pray for me!

They seem to have good CS. I think they charged me for the first bolt I broke but the second was free. It really helps if you know the difference between 70 ft-lbs and in-lbs Boy did I feel stupid.
