As the title implies...
I have a done a little of my own gunsmith work. (1911 clean up the trigger, modify a shotgun kind of stuff.) I have the bug... (before big o says I can't) Should I buy a Springfield armory or try to build my own? If I buy a SA, are there any draw backs or hassles I should expect? Difficulty level? If you think I should buy... which one? Basic or Loaded? I don't think I can afford the Match Grade. Gun show tomorrow.... Thanks.. Taz |
| I would say buy. M1As aren't like ARs. They require a lot more attention to detail during assembly. Also you talk as though you are on a budget. Buying all the parts, plus the tools, because I doubt you have the M14 tools, is going to be expensive. GI parts command a premium. Parts from suppliers like SEI, Fulton, and LRB aren't going to be cheap either. Right now availability is low too. To give you an idea, USGI triggers used to be had for $200 all day long 6 months ago. Now they are $250-300. USGI bolts used to be $250-300 now go for $400. Springfields are good guns. With this being your first M1A go buy an SAI and you'll be fine. As far as loaded vs standard, I chose standard and been very happy. I don't want the weight of a loaded or NM. I was looking for an all around shooter, not a bench gun. YMMV. |
