Every time I hear someone bring up the Johnson I remember the days in the late 80's/early 90's when I could have bought them all day long for $1k but I thought WTF it doesn't hold enough bullets

Then I grew up

Dang I really really need a time machine

I would like to know how to check headspace. I do have gauges.

I saw an M1941 for sale at a gunshow outside of Houston in 1990. I really wasn't interested in them back then but when it wasn't there the next day I asked what it sold for. It went for $450.

The Johnson is recoil operated versus the M1 that is gas operated.
The Johnson was designed to use the USGI .30-06 ammo. I always wondered how it would behave with different bullet weights, powder charges, and any exotic handloads.

I believe Jouster.com has an entire forum dedicated to the Johnson.

My mistake, I just checked and they do not.

Why would it be any different than any other rifle? No and NO-GO both work in mine.

What has you  concerned about the headspace that you need to check it?

Not like a grand where it's east to tell when the bolt is closed...

It's the Grand Dad to the AR15... Here's the barrel

I figured it out...

I have one of my own. I can tell if the bolt is "locked" or not.  I'm glad you figured it out.

They just had this on Gun Stories on the Outdoor Network the other day. They made it sound like Johnson detested the Garand and its gas operated system. I guess he must have since he went to all the trouble of producing a different rifle...

You refinished the whole rifle?

How much did that hurt the value?

From looking at the "before" pics, the gun was previously refinished/blued.  It's too bad about the stock though.

There is a forum devoted to the Johnson, run by a descendent of Johnson.  Just do a search for "johnsonautomatics.com".
