Orest stated they will be sold on auction, as I remember a few were sold at some of the Western match games for $2000

Just order a service grade and be happy like everyone else.

Many are ordering service grades are getting NM marked rifles.

Auction only.

Some people have found/received service grades put together by the CMP on salvaged AFPG barreled receivers but those aren't really real original complete AFPG rifles.

Those who wisely bought one at the western games did good and I couldn't believe some balked about the sleeved 7.62 rifles which are a rarer AFPG variant.

With all the cuts to ANG base level Marksmanship programs and some just closing them down more AFPG Grands in 7.62 and 30 cal will trickle in to the CMP. When my old unit pulls the plug on its program I'am going to ask the CMP if I can buy my issued AFPG Garand if they get it, would rather pay the $194 or $230 something dollars they are on the book for than $3k + they have been going on the Auctions though !

That'd actually be pretty cool if you could!

the supply squadron here maintains the M1s for the Honor Guard on base, I've volunteered myself to help maintain them since its very rare to find a USAF member that knows his way around a Garand.

He took it the same way I did and that was that you were calling the CMP "fucks".

Sorry if that's not what you meant, but that's how it sounded.

If that's truly the case he has my humbleist apologies, I let .mil slang for "awe shucks" flow through me again.

OP, I would scoop this up if you are serious about an AF rifle.  They're not hard to put together.  A barreled receiver is like a blank slate....you can build it up any way you want.

If one has the parts and know how, CMP has 7.62 MM Navy barreled receivers for sale now.  I got one two weeks ago and assembled a damn fine rifle.  Barrel was new and attached to a 1942 SA receiver.  HTH
