I purchased an early Springfield Armory, Inc. M1A in 2006 while living in Connecticut. It never had an elevation index marked placed on the receiver rear sight pocket ear. Recently, I finally got around to doing something about it. I spoke with Ron Smith at Smith Enterprise, Inc. about the issue. He said, no problem. I made an appointment and drove to Tempe, AZ yesterday. Ron did a great job on adding the elevation index mark to the receiver. Using a fixture he made in 1985, he made the index line using a carbide scribe. He then asked if I wanted the index a little wider. I nodded yes. With the slightest touch of a Dremel tool to the receiver, the elevation index was looking good. He also filled in the rear sight knob markings and elevation and windage index marks with white lacquer stick. Before and after photos of the receiver and the elevation index fixture are posted in the Photo Albums section of the M14 Research public page on FaceBook. So, yes, it did happen. |
