I want to mount optics on my rifle. Most of my shooting will be done at 200 yards, and on paper. I`m not sure what to go with. I like the Acogs, but Leupold has soe cool stuff too....

At 200 and shooting paper, just about anything will do.  I have had a leupy 2x7 and 3x9 on mine, and they both seem like better optics than I know what do with.  Except of course they lack all the fancy knobs you can twist by hand.  But the VXII 3x9 has audible clicks when dialing it in.  The 2x7 is just a vx1 and it doesn't click.  It's still a nice scope.  But with that 2x7 I have put 10 rounds under 4" at 200 yards.  I don't think you need a whole lot of magnification for 200.  A 4x might be plenty if you wanted to go with an ACOG.  But I don't think the ACOG is best suited atop of a M1A/M14.  I think something that can sit a little lower, once you put a mount on it, is a better deal.  Like a traditional scope.

I went with a Trijicon TR22R 2.5x- 10x 56, in ARMS medium rings, on an old-style ARMS #18 mount. There isn't much clearance between the ocular lens and the rear sight:

Take it from someone who has done it....don't go the ACOG route.  I love my ACOG, and the set-up works well enough, but if I had to do it again, I wouldn't, unless you're planning to spend some serious money on mounting solutions.

Sounds like a job for NM irons.

Leupold has a lot of good options for 200 yard shooting. For the money though, I think Vortex has a lot to offer. I came down to a similar decision when choosing a scope for mine and went with a Vortex Viper PST, and am very happy with it. I also do a lot of shooting beyond 500 yards though, so if my max range was 200 yards, turrets wouldn't really be a big deal to me. Another option to consider are the Nikon's with ballistic drop reticles. While I have never personally owned one, I have several friends that use them on their hunting rigs and they are very happy with them.

I really want the scout scope/ ultimak rail setup pictured here.

I have to buy the rifle first

Luepy Mk4-16 on top of a Basset Piccatinny mount. Needs the cheakrest for proper alignment though.
His low mount might be better.
