I have been thinking about upgrading my walnut stock on my M1A to either a Vltor or a Sage stock.  I cant decide which one I like better.  I want to know everyone's opinions on the two stocks.  I am a new member to the board, and this is my first post.  Hopefully many more to come.

I'm considering the Vltor.

I'm very impressed with the solid platform the JAE stock provides but it is very heavy.

But it lightens your wallet.

The SAGE and JAE will most likely yield the best accuracy. The VLTOR will be much cheaper and won't do anything for accuracy but it will be lighter and more compact with the folder.

If I go modern, it will be SAGE for me but I won't discount the JAE.

Walnut + steel filled epoxy
Yeah, it's not the high-speed option, but hey; I'm not a Speedo sort of guy.

if your not looking for any huge accuracy gain then go Vltor, I did and I couldn't be happier.

And its not a whole lot heavier than a standard synthetic stock

Its just a standard M1a, walnut stock. I want to give it more of an asualt rifle feel, Its as accurate as it can be in my hands, so I am not worried about any gains.  Just want to know others opinions on each.  These are the two options i have narrowed down, just not sure on the final choice yet.

The VLTOR stock is actually lighter than the Springfield's factory Body's walnut stock with all the hardware. That is to say, you will actually lose a little weight going to the VLTOR. For me, I prefer the ergonomics of an M1A action with a pistol grip versus a traditional stock. The VLTOR eliminates the need for cheek rests in scoped applications. It is also much less susceptible to environmental factors than any wooden stock. It also allows you to completely strip the weapoin without using any special tools, a claim which the SAGE cannot make.

The only thing I don't like about the VLTOR is that I've found it to flex a bit when using a bipod, which changes front band pressure and screws with consistency (and therefore accuracy). It can be stiffened/reinforced to eliminate this, but the wooden stocks do not seem to suffer from this problem.

I have been looking and researching for almost a year now. I finally ordered 2 Vltor stocks after seeing one at a gun show. My wife wanted as light as possible for her scout and this fit the bill nicely.
