I finally broke down and ordered a Scout.

Which over-the-receiver scope mount would you recommend? I want one that:
1. allow me to use the iron sight
2. is low enough so that I don't have to buy an expensive cheek riser.
3. doesn't break my bank as I already spent a lot on the rifle. Mounts are anywhere form $30-$400. Really confusing.

Of course. I can only search past 30 days though. I also went through all 9 pages of available topics here.

Thanks. I read them all before I posted the question. Just they don't answer my particular questions.

What's your budget for the scope mount?  Alloy aluminum is cheaper than steel which is cheaper than titanium.  Will you use Picatinny or Weaver rings?

Cloth cheek rests seem to run $40 to $50, give or take, nowadays.  I looked up prices for Smith Enterprise, Coyote, and Black Hawk - IVS fabric cheek pads.

If you use a traditional design stock, you'll need a cheek rest / pad even wiith low height scope rings.

The Brookfield Precision Tool style three point side scope mount will allow use of iron sights with the mount installed.  Such designs were/are made by Brookfield Precision Tool, Armscorp, Entreprise Arms, Sadlak Industries, LLC, Smith Enterprise, Inc., Atlantic Research Marketing Systems, Inc., etc.

If you want a quality scope mount with a minimum amount of issues (fitment with commercial receiver and outstanding customer support) and you're on a tight budget, I recommend the Sadlak Industries alloy aluminum M14 scope mount.

Sticky anyone?

So basically, I am stuck with the $150 Sadlak? Is there any real difference between aluminum and steel? How about this UTG one?

The steel scope mount is obviously heavier and more expensive.  For civilian purposes, the material of the scope mount is not critical.  What is important is how well the mount fits to your commercial receiver and where it makes contact with the receiver.

There are M14 owners that use the Leapers UTG scope mount that report satisfactory service with it.  There are positive reviews of it from our Canadian brethern.  The Leapers UTG scope mount was designed for airsoft M14 models.  Will it work and not come loose for several shots once fitted to a rifle that shoots real bullets? Probably.  I'm a firm believer in getting what you pay for.  There are good deals and then there is going cheap.  The M14 platform is tough on optics and the receiver design is not the best for mounting optics.  When it comes to scope mounts and optics  on the M14, buy quality and cry once.  If you only have $100.00 for a scope mount and a cheek rest, you need more budget.  Worst case, use iron sights only.  My $0.02.

try SWFA or ARMS #18              if you're wanting to use Scout scope the stock rail wont let you use Iron sights-I've got one w/Burris Scout scope it's a no go - but I do have it in throw lever mounts  unfortunately when I use this setup   cheekweld is interesting       LaRue has an AR mount that some are turning backwards with success
