Comparing a buddies Springfield to my rifle the other day turned up an interesting find. (Mine in Blue text) Maybe these are Garand sights? or?

Yes, you have M1 Garand elevation and windage knobs.

You have lock bar Garand sights which are worth considerably more to collectors. To shooters not so much as they are harder to adjust

You have a WWII Springfield elevation knob (closed arrows) and a WWII Winchester windage type II lockbar (open arrows) and crude mill marks on the lockbar.  Definately worth more to a collector.  I wonder how those got on there...

For awhile SA Inc used a bunch of Lock Bar sights in a certain serial # range.

They did this because..

A. They happened to have a boat load of Lock bar sets on Hand.

B. They had a batch of recievers with weak poorly stamped elevation detents and normal elevation knobs wouldn't hold.

Before dreaming of selling the sights for big $ take them off and try a set of later style  and see if they will work.

+1.   Those are worth nice coin (Especially the Winchester part)

well son of a gun... I like them apples––- thanks for all the replies.
I actually liked the lockbar because I still haven't mastered the tight vs. too tight, vs. too loose with the windage knob screw. Either that or I've had some worn out flat-tab & grooves with the wind & elev knobs.

My 1994 era M1A came with lockbar sights. I replaced them with more current GI M14 sights. I still have the lockbars as they will probably go on another build.
