| Just bought a Springfield M1A and having technical difficulties. I chamber a round, fire.. Good to go, ejects the round, loads the 2nd round into the chamber with no issues, the issue I have is that the trigger does not reset. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Is the rifle brand new? If so, it may just need to break in a bit.
And, what type of ammo is being used? Old surplus of an unknown source might be suspect. Has the rifle been cleaned and lubed recently? Crud in the gas cylinder or gas piston could cause the rifle to be sluggish. Or manufacturing residue left behind. Even a new rifle should be cleaned before firing. Also possible that there is a clearance issue between the stock and the hammer. |

Should not be the spindle valve if the rifle is cycling the empty out and the new one in.
Sounds like weak cycling, not going quite far enough back to cock the hammer. Might be the op rod is dragging on the stock slowing things down, a gas cylinder that isn't completely over the barrel's gas vent, a worn piston, a worn gas cylinder. Might also be a hammer issue with the hammer not catching on the sear and the hammer is following the bolt back forward. |

I don't think the oprod is dragging, the rifle is not in bad condition, piston doesn't look really worn or does the cylinder.

| Please make damn sure the hammer is NOT following the bolt down before you fire another round. To check this. Make sure rifle is unloaded. Pull back the charging handle and release. This will cock the hammer. Now pull the trigger. You should hear the hammer clank as it falls. Now while still holding the trigger to the rear. Pull back the charging handle and release. Now release the trigger. And pull it again. If you do NOT hear the hammer fall this time. it's not being caught by the hooks. This can be a dangerous situation. If unsure of what I have just explained. Take it to a gunsmith familiar with this weapon and explain your problem to the gunsmith. |

Contact Springfield and let them know the serial number of the product.
Don't be surprised if they don't offer to fix it under their warranty and pay postage. Check the gas system first. Is the piston clean and is the gas plug tight? Could be a gas problem. Or something else..but it's a good first guess. Also, how's the trigger fit to the stock, any binding, and is the trigger clean and lightly lubed? |

LOL yeah I have never had good luck with Springfield's customer service. Piston is clean and gas plug is tight. And thanks for the all the help troubleshooting guys! |

Ok when I do a function test and pull the charging handle back while keeping my finger on the trigger the hammer follows the bolt foward. So got it narrowed to that Okay from your first post I thought thats what was happening. Springer has had some problems with their trigger groups. A member of my club had his springer go full auto on him because of this. Now have a knowlagable smith fix that asap. And than go have fun with your new toy. |

Correct! The trigger will not reset, ejects the round fine, loads a new round so its not a gas issue. Just trying to figure why it wont reset. Also it does not slam fire, like I said took it out yesterday. It did the same thing everytime. Went bang then nothing. Rechamber, bang then nothing. Really seems like to me a trigger group issue. I had an M1A @ 5 years ago, just been awhile messing with these so...... AGAIN THANKS GUYS |
