| Anyone use IMR 4895 in their M1A? How does it work? Good? What size round are you using with it, for accuracy? Any help would be great, thanks. |

IMR 4895 is "good stuff" in .308s.
That being said...................Service Rifle load data http://www.radomski.us/njhp/cart_tech.htm and....... http://masterpostemple.bravepages.com/762mil.htm http://www.6mmbr.com/308Win.html As a reloader.........you must know that there is more to it than just picking a bunch of components. So, experiment. Aloha, Mark |

IMO 4895 is the go to powder for the M1A. 41.5 grains under a 168 SMK at 2.800 OAL. If your rifle won't shoot that load it's broken. +1 it don't get better than that! I just loaded up H4895 w/168 SMK and shot at the indoor range as was VERY impressed....I will shoot my first match this Sat. |

So, experiment. Aloha, Mark very good advice; and is not limited to just the rifle. I started reloading for my garand using IMR 4895 on a Dillon 550. First few loads were impressive, but started noticing inconsitencies in the batch after 10 rounds or so. I also worked up loads using IMR 4064 and H 4895. All the IMR loads had problems and the Hodgdon loads were spot on from the first to last in the batch. I began to weigh the imr rounds and found as much as a 5 gr variance; H4895's had no more than 1/8 gr variance per 200 rds. A little ivestigation revealed the IMR powders had a tendency to cling to my hopper and not completly fill my case during the reloading cycle. The h4895 has a different coating that makes it a better powder for using in a progressive reloader; it is less apt to cling to the hopper. Sometimes it is not so much what your fire arm likes; but what your press likes. So; If i use IMR 4895 it is strictly a hand load; but since my rifle shoots IMR and H4895 equally well I tend to use the H4895 for all my M1 loads. My m1 load; Sierra 168 gr MK; H4895 47gr. |
