Of course, anyone else can answer, if they have any info.

Yesterday at the range here in Co. Spgs, I ran into a gentleman who is reportadly an experienced M14 gunsmith/armorer. His name is John Penticofe. He looked my rifle over, and it was obvious that he could "talk the talk". I'm wanting to see if anyone is experienced with him or his work.

He offered his services to bed and gauge my M1A for $225. While that seems a little high, it would be probably less than having to ship both ways, and pay a transfer fee.

I'll be posting this at M14TFL when I get off of work, but figured I would ask here as well.

I have not heard of him, but I did find the following via Google.

He is one of the two Colorado Highpower Rifle Gunsmiths listed on JarHeadTop.com

Why would you have to pay for a transfer?

Thanks for what you dug up. I'm trying to sort through the mountain of emails while I was on leave, and haven't had a chance yet to do a thorough search.

No, he's just down the road from me, so no transfer fees that I can think of.

You shouldn't have to anyway if it's going for repairs, etc. to a gunsmith or FFL.  Correct?

You do not have to go thru an FFL to send your rifle to a Licensed gunsmith. I have done it several time's and have a copy of the law's around here somewhere if i need to dig them up.
