Hey guys,

need some feedback, my head's not where it needs to be right now.  Found an M1A at a shop, it's in a wood stock, with no selector cutout, so I'm guessing it's a newer Springfield.  Brown plastic upper handguard.  The receiver is marked Springfield Armory and has a number similar to 00127xxx or something like that.  So I'm also guessing that SA started numbering again from 000001 or whatever.

The bolt is not the original SA, I think it's marked either HRA or HRT and has a very faint stenciled number on it, XXXX-XXXX-XXX.  The loading clip guide is parkerized, along with the bolt, but all the other parts look just like the new springfields in color and finish.  So I'm guessing someone bought a standard M1A and swapped out those 2 parts, the op rod does not appear to have been changed out.

I can get the rifle for around 1300, do I go get it or pass because I'm not 100% sure of who did what to which?

Thanks in advance.

oh, and the mag that comes with it is NOT a SA, and is NOT a genuine A grade mag, so I'm guessing it's probably garbage, but I have other mags here.  No box, no sling, standard sights, no other upgrades.

I voted pass only because of the uncertainty you have of parts being switched out.  I see them for around $1,500.00 new at gun shows.  I would spend the extra $200.00 to get a new one.  I didn't know any of the M1A's had selector cut outs I thought they were all designed to be semi only.  M14's are a different story.

I would pass.
If you don't get in a hurry the right will come around.
I just found a National Match 98% condition with 3rd gen mount, and cheek riser for 1400.00

Sorry no pics yet. I put it on layaway. Hopefully in a few weeks.

In that serial number range they still had some USGI parts on hand. I have one in the low 100,000 range and it came with a TRW bolt and some GI trigger group parts.  The price is to high for a used gun unless there are beau coup extras ( scope mount, GI mags, ammo).   Should go for 1000 to 1200.

Yeah, no extras at all, and like I said, the mag is probably crap.

OKay, thanks for the input guys.  Votes seem to be pretty even, but those voting "yes" aren't giving any reasons.

It's a M1-A ,

I'd buy it and shoot the hell out of it.  Around here you don't see them less than 1700.

I say get it. My dad's M1A has some HRA or TRW parts in it. The trigger group is either all HRA or all TRW, I can't remember. It came from the factory that way in 2006.

I have a M1A of similar vintage, and it came with a USGI chrome lined barrel and commercial Springfield Bolt, also it has the surplus m14 stock with the selector cutout.
I believe Springfield uses whatever they have on hand on a given week.
Anyway 1300 isn't such a bad price if it's in excellent condition. If it has the chrome'd barrel I'd definitely buy it. I doubt that pre 2008 prices will come back any time soon.

Still dilly-dallying, I'll go check it out again next week if it's still there, and if it has the CL barrel maybe I'll get it anyway...
