I recently installed a SAGE EBR on my Loaded M1A.  I figured since I was going to break it down, I might as well replace the neutered Flash Suppressor with one with a bayonet lug.
I ordered one from Fulton and it went on without a problem.
Now following each shot the Flash Suppressor rings like a tuning fork.
Had I not heard a louder version on a friends .308 AR I would have thought it was my tinnitus acting up.
Anyone else heard this?

That ringing sound means it is forged and not cast. It will last a long longer and is far less susceptible to cracking.
It's a good thing it rings!

I chased that noise one day until I realized what it was.

My Springfiels M1A has a factory neutered suppressor and it rings.

Yep, same here. Love that sound.

Any well made FS should ring like a tuning fork.  Cast or forged.  If it doesn't it may indicate it's cracked.

It should ring when you strike it on a solid object, but not when the rifle is fired. Check to see if there are any marks near the front where the bullet may be grazing the flash suppressor or if there are any cracks at the front between the ribs. Another possibility is that the flash suppressor is loose on the barrel. In thirty years of gov't NM M14 and M1A rifles, I have never heard a flash suppressor "ring" except one that was cracked. If you want to hear a tuning fork ring, shoot a M1D Garand with the prong flash suppressor. That noise on every shot takes some getting used to.

ringing has nothing to do with forged vs cast. The tines vibrate like a tuning fork.  Thats the culprit.

Casting means molten metal poured into a mold. Forged means it is compressed and/or hammered under heat, then machined.
There is a huge difference in the way they sound when a shot is fired through a forged vs cast flash hider.

I have both, and there is no difference. Both ring.

It all depends on the quality of the casting how long it will last. I've cut several flash hiders to NM specs on a lathe. I've found both types, cast and forged, sometimes to be off centered, not concentric with the bore center.  The forged ones I did, GI, were much closer to center than the cast ones when being turned in a lathe. You could lightly tap them while turning and actually bend them closer to concentric.
You can't do that as easily with a cast one.
And you get one hell of a different sound between the two when you are doing that.
If you do crack a forged one, it can be welded and repaired if necessary.
A cast one can not be welded so easily.
Removing and replacing the flash hider will open up the slots on the barrel ever so slighttly every time it is done. It will eventually loosen the fit of the flash hider and accuracy will suffer.
How long will a cast flash hider last compared to a forged one?
That depends on how the rifle is handled, how much it is shot and with what ammo, etc.
Both should last a LONG time, with the forged one being more rugged and lasting longer under rougher handling.

The ringing means it's forged, just like others have said. A cast one will ring too, but to a far lesser degree. It's a good thing.

What's really cool is if you've got a forged receiver, like an LRB for example, the entire receiver will ring like a small bell. It's a truly beautiful sound because every time you hear the "Ting" imagine a subtitle that says, "Quality!" Cast M14/M1a receivers go thunk.

It's partly why I named my rifle "Belle".  Let Freedom Ring!
