Can someone explain to me why there are 3 sling points on the M1, I see really 2 points for the sling (middle one and buttstock one) but what is the top "sling point" for?  It doesn't appear to be for a bayonet since that is installed using the lug.

yup. stacking swivel. you can connect three rifles into a triangular formation by using them

nice, I searched for stacking swivel and couldn't find anything... that explains it.  Thanks!  Any other alternate uses for that swivel?

Nope.  Sole reason in life is for stacking arms.  03 had them as well.

Yup.......stacking.

Nice picture (for your mind)...........tents set up, rifles all stacked up in front, etc..........

But then........ever wonder why it's not done anymore?

Maybe, someone LEARNED something.
