| I'm looking to take a road trip to the Ohio store the first weekend in Aug. to purchase my first M1. The problem is I just sent in my membership to VCDL and I don't think that my proof of membership will be here in time. Is there a affiliated club that I can get into quickly enough to make my trip? I need a 3-4 week turn around time. |

Sounds like the GCA is the way to go. Thanks. Sir, +1 for the GCA. Sounds like the way to go for your immediate purposes. VCDL membership credentials can take a while to receive. As a VCDL volunteer at local gun shows it's not uncommon for members who signed up during the previous show complain that they had still not received their card. As an alternative you can sign on for the VSSA online but I don't know how long it will take to receive your membership credential. FWIW, the first week in August is CMP week of the National Matches. There will be a lot more to spend your money on when you get there. Some of us will be staying in the double letter rows of huts. HTH, 7zero1. |

I know it boils down to a personal preference but is it worth the extra $100 for the service over field grade M1's? I found a replacement stock and handgaurd set from cabelas so I'm mainly focused on correct numbers, wear and metal finish. Yes! I believe that Service Grades are worth $100.00 more than Field Grades. It will usually cost more than that to replace the stock or barrel. I've had to replace parts on "new" Rack and Field Grades but none on Service Grades. As far as "personal preference" goes, mine is for the best I can get. Be careful when buying replacement wood for M1s; you often have to do some filing and sanding. |

No Garand will have correct "numbers" parts unless you buy a Correct or Collector Grade which they are out of |
