My father and I are going to order a M1 Carbine from the CMP before they run out.

Since we live in TX there is no option to actually go down to the CMP and pick one out.

We're going to get a a Service grade to match the M1 Garand that I already have.

What we would like to know is, are there any brands that we should avoid on general principal?

I was just at the CMP store in Ohio earlier this week all the carbines looked real good. I will more than likely pic one up in August at the national matches.
I will say the CMP's M1 that CMP special looked real nice for 995.00 well worth the green

Well... never mind.

We were going to get an Inland Carbine fore $495, but as of today/tonight the CMP is sold out

WOW.

Sent in my order for an Inland service grade carbine about 3 weeks ago.  Got my conformation email about 2 weeks ago.  I'm glad I didn't wait any longer.

If you want a service grade get some extra money and spring for the SG or underwood.  Good luck.

Wow, I can't believe they sold out of the SG Inlands.

This is the SG Inland I got last month from the CMP, along with a SG HRA Garand.  I'm glad I didn't wait any longer.

As I recently posted, the quality on mail order Inland carbines apparently varies a lot within the service grade category.    The picture you have posted looks ten times nicer than the two "service grades"  that I recently received, both of which look like they were dragged behind a car.   And, oh yes, the carbine's receiver/trigger group in mine move up 1/8 of an inch inside the stock every time you pull the trigger.  They do have great customer service though - no question about that.    I guess it was just my turn to be unlucky.    They do warn you that the carbine may have cracks (lucky me, mine did) and that they are "luck of the draw" via mail order.   Seeing yours just reminds me how damned unlucky I was going "0 for 2."  Since I got my two CMP lemons, I have been able to buy a very nice m-1 carbine through gunbroker.com from a guy for the same price I paid CMP for the Inland service grade lemons.   I also have a new Kahr Auto Ordnance m-1 carbine that is very sweet.  I know there are many CMP lovers on this board who don't like to see negative posts about CMP but I have to tell it the way it is.  Sorry the truth hurts sometimes.  I was also flamed for not driving to the North Store since I live in Ohio but I live in the extreme southeast part of the state making it a four-and-a-half hour drive for me.
