This is the history.          SA standard M1a built in 93,, scope is a leupold mk4 10x40 and my ammo is federal LE308T1 (165gr bonded).   it was not easy to find as much as I have.

- I bought an M1a and tried the SA gen 3mount. It sat way to high and I did not like it.

-I then tried a ARMS #18. It was crooked due to a non spec SA receiver, and was way off. Too much to even try a zero.

- I now have a ARMSCORP para brookfield mount. It was fitting the same way as the ARMS #18. Being this one had the cam adjustment I decided to file the key to fit the groove on my SA reciever. After alot of  time and work, the key fit the groove and I also have the clip guide fitted as well.

I got the mount bolted to the gun and went to zero it at 50 yards, because I want a 200 yard final zero. The crosshairs bottom out and the bullet impact was 6 inches high and 1" to the right. The crosshairs were moved all the way up

Then I removed the scope and made some mount adjusments. Being the POI was higher that my crosshair, I moved the mount up via the screw in the front and tightened the other screws back down.  After the adjustments I got the scope zeroed at 50 yards. This made me happy because I only had to shoot 30 rounds and my stash was hard to come by.

I have yet to apply loctite to the scope mount threads. It will not be removed after this because I do not was it too move at all.. Lets say I loctite the bolts and screws and go to rezero and find I need another major height adjustment. At this point is it okay to start using shims? I can make some shims from pieces of clear hard  plastic film or thin brass sheets?

Is there a better mount that allows for more travel/adjustment?  I want the scope to be mechanically zeroed internally and for it to be adjusted by mount adjustments, but It is not looking like this will happen.  I can manage to rezero the crosshairs if I need. The clicks on the elevation/height knobs are limited to 90 up/down and 45 left right.

I am going to ask for a 3rd time...  WHo can I send this rifle too that will do this job correctly?  I am tired of messing with it.

I'd try Sadlak - they offer a service to fit mounts to non-standard recievers.  Would have included the fitting kit if you bought your mount from them.  I think fitting is ~$50.

A couple things, 1) SEI sells a longer bolt for USGI mounts on an SAI receiver.  2)If the receiver is that badly out of spec SAI should fix it under their warranty, have you tried going down that road?  3) Both Sadlak and SEI will custom fit a mount to your receiver.

Ive had a similar problem with my Springfield M1A. The Gen III mount that it came with would not fit into the side of the reciever properly (where the key sat into the groove). I dremeled the key down a bit to make it fit, and it did, but overally I dont like how high the mount sits nor the constantly loosening thumb screws that it has. I'm planing on purchasing a nicer mount such as a mount from Sadlak or SEI and hopefully it will work and my reciever is not out of spec. I might just send it to Sadlak to install with their "Custom fit" promise.

Sadlack told me he is not going to fit anyone's mounts but his own.

I wont be able to check mine at range until a few weeks.
