The diameter on a USGI rear sight aperture is 0.069 " + 0.005 ". The M1A SOCOM rear sight aperture diameter is 0.125 ".

Sounds like a USGI aperture meets 1/8" drill bit ($2).

Be advised that the USGI is heat treated to 40 to 45 HRC all the way through.

Then you are going to want a 1/8" carbide drill and a lot of speed and feed!

Could one EDM it? A buddy of mine used that to modify my NM sight knob to give me quarters in windage.

I learned of a easy modification that worked well for my Garand aperture. Just fill the hole with blended JB weld, and when it's dry, drill the size hole you want. It's not a permanent mod––you can remove all of it if you don't like it.
