| Ok I just got a Garand and would like some info on the adjustable gas plug. I tried the search function it yielded no answers. So if i buy an adjustable plug how do you know when it is adjusted right? I did buy some greek ammo but would like the option to use store bought ammo since i'm sure surplus will dry up some day. Thanks |

I don't own one...........does it come with instructions?
____________________ OK..........IF it didn't. I'd imagine that, it would be sort of like doing an adjustment on a FAL gas system. On principal........... Start with largest hole........fire a round and see if it ejects and holds the bolt back (last round). If it doesn't........go to the next smaller hole. Repeat until satisfied with functioning. OK........with an FAL I would go further, extra 2 clicks, to ensure combat conditions. But, bottom line......it's gotta work, to be fun. Aloha, Mark |

| I have a Schuster on my .308 Garand. I started off with the adjustment screw installed about flush with the face of the gas nut. I fired a shot and as expected, the rifle did not cycle. I then tightened the adjuster one turn and tried again. It took several shots before the rifle loaded the next round as it should. I then backed it out 1/2 turn to see if it would still function and fired a few shots. It short stroked after the second shot so I knew I was close. Adjusted it back in the 1/2 turn and tried again. It fired the remaining rounds in the clip without problem. I then tightened it 1/4 turn more to ensure function when it started to get dirty and installed the lock screw on top of the adjustment screw to keep it in place. The rifle has worked perfectly since then. |
