Ok guys....stupid question. How many rounds can I put through my SA standard before cleaning it (using quality ammo)? I've always been obsessive about cleaning all of my guns after every use, but have recently heard that I might be over doing it.  I've heard that I only need to clean the gas piston on my M1A every 500 rounds or so. What about the chamber and barrel?

Has anybody used the Hoppes Elite cleaner yet. Just curious to see if it lives up to the hype.

I do the chamber, bore, bolt face and wipe off everything I can reach and remove/replace grease each time.  The gas system I clean out every 300-500rds, although I've gone 1000rds between cleanings, and it still ran without stopage.

4,000ish rounds without a full tear down.  Haven't pulled the piston since it still slides with gravity.  A little bolt face/chamber brush every now and then, wheel bearing grease where/when needed, couple drops of Tetra oil here and there.  She's a bit neglected, but I was "inspired" by the guy with the crapped on FAL.  Round count would be higher, but life changes and skyrocketed prices have put a hurt on the torture test.  This is just an example of what they can take, not a suggested care schdule.
