I'm looking for a scope mount for my SA M1A. What should I know about them? Which are recommended and who has the best price (and in stock)? Thanks |

Well you have missed out on the best deal around, the SEI Weaver mount for $125. Unfortunately it looks like they are sold out. The next cheapest decent mounts are the ARMS mount which is very low (better for shooting with a scope) and the Bassett mounts which are very high (sacrifices cheek weld and good shooting position for the ability to shoot with irons, never understood the point myself). The ARMS is a 3 point mount and requires removing the cartridge clip guide and the Bassett is a 2 point mount and does not. Also you can remove and install the Bassett without loosing zero.
The best mounts IMO are the SEI and Sadlak mounts. Stay far away from the SAI 3rd generation crap. |

The Sadlak industries mounts are the best. They are a 3 point contact mount and once mounted will hold up to the recoil of the 308. The mounts they sell are similar to the original Brookfield mount used during the Vietnam war on sniper rifles. Sadlak purchased the rights after the original company went out of business. If you have a Springfield M1A or other quality receiver the mount goes on in about 15-20 minutes.
Unless you are going to Afghanistan or Iraq, purchase the Aluminum mount and put the extra money in optics. You should call them and/or check them out on line Sadlak Industries |

| McCann makes an excellent one and I know it's in stock: Link |
| scope mounts just hinder the truly awesome capability of the iron sights that Springfield armory has been so kind as to grace your rifle with. but if u dont like em, just try a new 3rd generation SA mount. alot of yahoos want u to buy 300 dollar mounts but my 3rd gen and my buddies work great if u make sure to install it well. good luck. |

It is impossible to get a good cheek weld without a pad of some sort using any M14 mount period. If anyone says otherwise they have not tried. It is just the way it is with M14s. Get a strap on cheek pad or if you don't mind drilling 2 big holes in your stock you can install one of the kydex comb risers.
Everyone in this post seems to be on a Sadlak kick but the Smith Enterprises (SEI) mounts are the same thing but SEI offers some other mounts that Sadlak does not. SEI is also a military issued mount. You cannot go wrong with either though but I personally would stick with all steel mounts (or titanium). |

An optic on QR rings does not hinder the usefulness of the M1A. |
