I sent in an order for some ammo and an HRA M1 on the 7th of November. It still hasn't even made it to "pending" status yet....the only reason I know that they even got the money etc....is because I called and confirmed they had it. Ordered some m1 Carbine mags about a week after that, over the phone, credit card- first day they were available- nothing.
Sucks. |
|
The CMP is really stacked up with orders; they are receiving massive numbers of requests for rifles and ammunition. Processing all of the new applications, filling those orders and shipping them all over the nation has created a big slow down. Orest has said that the amount of ammunition and rifle orders is unprecedented and that they are working 7 days a week to try and ship as quickly as possible. As for the H&R Special, they are like new rifles and I wish that I had ordered two instead of just one. They are definitely one of the best deals that CMP has ever offered.

I ordered some non surplus ammo. It was about 45 days before it arrived.
I know the guns can be slow but I was suprised that they were that slow with ammo. They tell ya it takes 60-90 days ore whatever with each gun. I was a bit disappointed that on several orders for generic stuff like T shirts and books that they can be slow. Not that it was an emergency but it seems silly to take a computer order and not be able to ship for weeks and weeks. That said, I understand that the rifles take some time to unpack, inspect and match up with orders based on the size of a facility and staff on hand. Overall I like CMP but I will not order stuff that I need soon or can get readily at another vendor like wideners, midway, graf and sons, etc. |

Back in the good old days it wasn't like that. It took a year. Yes, one full year. And you got exactly one rifle per lifetime. Heck if I recall correctly back in the day, they said it might take up to 2 years and you didn't get a choice or any guarantee on quality. You got what you got and it just might need a serious overhaul. Of course that was the army run program. They're like that. ![]() |

Sent off my order for a service grade Springfield and 192 spam can on 11/24, arrived at CMP on 12/1 with the thousands of Winchester orders, and received the DBU email on 12/10. I then decided to place another ammo order online (12/15) for an additional two 240 rd cans. They are supposedly shipping the 11/10 orders now so I don't plan on getting the rifle anytime soon Oh well, the M1 Garand Owners Guide by Scott Duff, M3A1 combo tool, and Turner Saddlery M1907 sling are all patiently awaiting its arrival! |

Get used to the wait.....
I called CMP on Monday the 29th to see if they were going to need a new club card from me since my order has not shipped and most likely would not before the new year. The nice lady said they were just now processing orders from the week of November 10th. They are backed up..... Again..... Get used to the wait..... Oh I know it isn't their fault. I actually have been to Anniston and unpacked rifles for them back during the volunteer days in the late 90's. I expect that any day now I'll get a confirmation via email. Seems like once it gets to that stage things move pretty quickly.
The only thing that is disconcerting about it is that they don't give you any kind of immediate receipt......by email or otherwise....A HI, we received your order and it is currently processing, thank you kind of thing. Be glad to get my rifle when it comes.....it has many brothers to meet. |

with CMP being as flooded with orders as they are I was planing on taking a trip over to the north store and picking up a rifle to negate the wait. I do have a few questions for those that have gone this route and bought direct from the store
I know you still have to meet all the criteria but do you still have to have your order form notarized, or is that just for mail in orders? I heard you walk out with the rifle the same day I was just wanting to make sure that is the case. Thanks! |
|
When I placed an order on the phone on 12/12/08, the lady told me that they just started on orders received on the week of 11/12/08.
They have been swamped with orders pre and post election. In the last 6 months they have sold something like 16 million rounds of ammo. The fear is that Obama will stop importation of surplus ammo, hence the run. I just ordered another 2k of M2 ball. |

Yes..... but they have a notary right there in the store. Best to all, Swampy Garands forever __________________ 2007 NRA Missouri State 600 yard Service Rifle Champion. Back in the good old days it wasn't like that. It took a year. Yes, one full year. And you got exactly one rifle per lifetime. Indeed. My first (and at the time, I thought my only) M1 took 364 days from when I mailed it. I will never complain about a wait of a month or two to get something that other administrations will likely ban or destroy in the future. |
|
I waited and didn't send in my order until the week before Christmas. Jeesh I know I'll be waiting forever, even for confirmation. FWIW however they do send confirmations/updates via email. This is what I got from a question I asked customer service:
"You will receive an email when we open your mail. You will receive another email when we begin processing the order, and another email when it is ready to ship." Of course what they say they do and what actually happens may be different. I ordered 2 Garand's. One being a "Correct Grade" |
|
Another question about visiting the North Store:
I'm an Illinois resident, and we've got a 1 day waiting period for purchasing rifles. If I travel 4 hours to the North Store, are they going to make me wait 1 day before I can take possession, or do I get to take them home immediately? |

My longest and shortest CMP orders arrived on the same day in 1998. The first was a Select Grade that I'd ordered 18 months earlier. The second was a lottery M1D––9 days prior I got the notification letter and mailed the package 15 minutes later. |
|
What happens now if when you actually place your order it shows as available on the web site but by the time they open and process it(a least a month behind now) it's not available anymore? Jeesh this could be a nightmare. You might never get what you're really wanting without actually going to the store yourself.
Dangit I should have done this years ago. |

Got the email today! Carbine and Garand should be here tommorrow! I can't even sleep I am so excited. When did you submit your order, and when did you get your first e-mail confirmation that they even received it? My order arrived at their store on 11-15, and I got the first e-mail on 12-4. I've heard nothing since. |
|
I sent out my order on 11/5/2008. Received confimation of order arrival on 11/22/08. Processing email oon 1/05/2008, and shipping email 1/08/2009. Will arrive today.
BTW .30-06 ammo ordered at the same time - Processing email on 1/5/09 and shipping notice on 1/06/09. Ammo ships ground so ETA is 14 Jan 09. |
Mooreshawn, I'm in the same boat, I got an email in December that said my order was received 11/17. I've been waiting patiently and today, on a whim, checked the pending orders page, and there it was! Both my new Service Grade Springfield order and a can of ammo. There is a notice on my card that the payment is pending, but I haven't received any other emails from the CMP. At least I'm seeing progress, and all the encouraging words from the enthusiasts on the forum have kept the spirits up. Thanks to all and be patient everybody, thank God we all got our orders in when we did before we can't get them at all (which may be in the not-to-distant future). The more of these pieces of history get into the hands of patriot Americans the better off we'll all be.

| They just arrived from Fed Ex 10 min ago. Garand is 2.7 mil SN and has a new wood stock. Looks better than I had let myself hope. BTW was a Service Grade Springfield as well. The carbine is a Service Grade Inland and also looks good. No bayonete lug on the carbine. Oh I wanna shoot now!!! Wife just said to order 2 more carbine for the boys. Can it get any better than this? |

Guys...they are SWAMPED at the CMP..just check the CMP forums-CMP Forum I know we want our stuff and now, but they are doing all they can. +1, I was at the North store last week when they reopened after the shutdown, and was there on the 17th of Dec. as they were closing for the holiday shutdown. Both trips were great as always, and they were BUSY! Not the typical crowd of "lookers" I see a good bit of the time, people were buying everything that was in decent shape, the staff was working non stop helping people and busting tail to keep the paperwork and goods flowing. I was loading up the truck with rifles and ammo this last time around, and when it was all in there I had room for a couple more ammo crates and went back in to get 2 more. It took a good 35-40 minutes just to get the extra ammo I needed and I wasn't dragging tail as I had a long ride home. The good folks at the CMP are absolutely slammed with business and orders right now. I'm not planning on ordering anything the rest of this year, just going to have to make another store trip or 2 before spring get's here. Hang in there if you have an order in, they are working as hard as they can. |

Here's my post in the General Firearms forum. I'm keeping a running timeline of the order process so anyone else stuck in limbo will know what to expext and when...

FYI I received an email yesterday(1/12/2009) about my order. The email acknowledged receipt and verification of my order they received on (12/22/2008) for 2 Garand's.
I have an ammo order that was made on Jan 5th and hopefully those two orders aren't confused. The ammo order is showing up on the estore but not the M1s as of yet. Now the wait. |
| I too placed an ammo order after the initial rifle order. My ammo order went via internet on 12/03 and 12/07, and they showed up in the e-store LONG before the rifle did. The rifle took nearly a month from the e-mail saying they got it until it showed i the e-store. However, the CC was hit just days after it showed up. The ammo still hasn't hit the card. |
|
Man this sucks. I called today and they indicated that my order was received on the 17th of November. I dunno how that works cause I sent it on Nov. 7th but anyway, they are working on orders received on the 14th so I am 3 days worth of "orders" away at this point.
I cannot figure how guys that sent their orders LONG after mine have rifles in their hands and my order still hasn't even made the "processing" stage..... I hope I get Elvis's Garand......or something equally nice. |

My order was received on the 17th, and I'm still waiting too, so I'm in the same boat. Hopefully soon! Hey, my order just showed up on my pending order page on the online store. Yeah! |
