| I have an M1a that I'm starting to see the Op Rod pop out of the channel it rides in. I'm guessing the tab is worn and needs to be put back into spec. Should I attempt to locate a new one or is there a company that can fix it? Do I need to send the whole gun in or do they just put the tab back to spec? |

OP-rod Guru. If your oprod needs to be rebuilt such as the piston, tab, or needs to be rebent, call or email Jim Swartz at [email protected], or call him at 614-834-4895 ( OH ). He rebuilds a lot of the oprods for some of the big name smiths. I think this is his current info. |

I have a major bitch of a time getting my op rods OUT of the channel.
Something is definitely wrong if it pops out ez. Could be the receiver is wore or the op rod tab. Or could be a bent op rod. Maybe u could bend the op rod a little. I'd by a new op rod...and then try to bend the old one "in". And if it works u have a spare. And if it doesn't....try the new op rod. If that doesn't work...it pretty much has to be the receiver. |

I have a brand new SA Loaded and I can take the Op rod out of the channel with the rifle fully assembled. According to SA, if it is not popping out during firing, it is ok. Just my 2 cents. skink It will come out of the channel while firing. Any clue on the price? I'll call him tomorrow. |

You say M1a so I'll assume SA Inc. which means lifetime warranty.
That said....you may want to check to see that your op rod guide is truly vertical and not rotated to the left of center creating that outboard pressure. A tap with a rubber mallet will move a normal op rod guide. You can also look at the tip of the op rod and see if it's centered on the piston tip. If it's skewed left right or what ever you have some issues. It's cold and nasty out and not nice shooting weather, call SAInc. and ship it off if it looks otherwise ok. |

+1 on sending it to SAI. They'll fit a new op rod to your receiver. Just give them a call and get a return authorization number. SAI CS What are the details of the rifle? How old is it and how many rounds are on that op rod? WHat are the markings on the tube/arm connection point? |

Mine started to quit on me today and would jump out of the track at least once every clip. |

He can do the M1 and M1A op-rods. He'll need the rifle to properly fit it so it will be tight unless you can fit it yourself. |

This weekend a fellow ARFCOMer loaned me an operating rod and my rifle ran perfectly. So, we concluded that the operating rod in fact needs to be rebuilt or replaced. After an brief email exchange my operating rod went out to 'The Swartz' today. Do lets us know what the problem was/is with your op rod... |

He mentioned early that the rifle is not an SAI built rifle. Its a pieced together rifle. |

Do lets us know what the problem was/is with your op rod... My M1 operating rod came back today. Here is the evaluation Jim Swartz sent two weeks ago: Your op rod arrived today and I looked it over. Piston is in great shape.
Guide lug falls within new manufacturing tolerance except the corners are galled. ... There is a fresh break where the cam slot tip is broke off. That most likely is the result of the dismounting you described. ... Op rod appears a little bent, also from the dismounting described. He repaired the damage we discovered at LCR. It looks very nice, but it could be some time before I can test it again. |
