I am preparing to order a new CMP Garand and have pretty much settled on a service grade weapon, but they offer both the Springfield Armory as well as he Harrington and Richardson Garands and I am unsure which one I want, any input would be appreciated.

I gurss it's just personal preference.  I got a Springfield Armory back in Jan.  They have quite a few H&Rs now.  You may want to check out the CMP forum and see what the guys are getting.

As a note, virtually all of the SAs they're sending out now are 5mil SN 1950s production. They occasionally find a WWII SN, but apparently they aren't common.

Years back I bought a SA and it is in the 500,000 range - 1941 if I remember correctly.  That was when they cost $165.  It has the machined trigger guard and nice wood.  I did not shoot it much since it was so nice.  I just ordered a HR SG to be a shooter.  I am hoping my HR will be as new and unused as they come.

My SA, which I got back in Jan was a '43 or '44, can't remember which.  Will have to look it up again.  But definately a WWII one. (reciever is anyway).
