OK, title says pretty much everything. How good is the stock barrel on my Springfield. I have called the factory and they ran the serial number and said I don't have many(if any) G.I. parts in my gun. Should I bother trying to locate and buy a G.I. barrel? Is it really worth the money? How much does one cost if I do? If I can't locate one, what other options do I have? Thanx, jason

More importantly...HOW DOES IT SHOOT?
Depending on your needs and experience....why mess with the barrel if you're only going to use it casually?
Planning on going to the Nationals at Camp Perry?
Change the Barrel to a Kreiger or other Hi-End Match pipe.
Learning basics....hunting...plinking....100 yards or 600 yards?
What kind of ammo..will you be developing match-handloads?
Too many questions to know the answer to your question without much more details.
A trigger and accuracy job with a good M-14 Plumber might be money better spent.
As well as the most ammo and time at the range you can afford.
