Well I have had my first malfunction, if you want to call it that, I took a friend to the range and let her fire my SA M1A from the prone position and on the second or third mag she had a double fire on the first two out of a 20rnd mag, it really suprised me and really got her attention.
What would have caused this and could it turn into a problem?

panther,

Probably not a problem with the rifle.  Possible, but not likely.  Most likely shooter error....

LOTS and LOTS of previous discussions of this subject.   Search this forum for "double" and "slam fire".

Pull all the way through the trigger, Don't stop at the breaking point.
Too many people like to stop where the sear is released and the secondary sear doesn't get a good hold on the hammer causing a double fire.
Sort of like people "bump firing".
Two things that can cause the double firing - worn trigger/secondary sear and/or the hammer.
Until it starts happening frequently, I wouldn't worry about it.
Just pull the trigger all the way through.
